Report: Mets' Bay likely going on DL
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla.
Mets general manager Sandy Alderson declined Wednesday to make an official announcement on Bay's status, saying he first must talk with the three-time All-Star.
Bay was in New York for tests a day after he was scratched from the Mets' lineup with soreness in his rib cage. Alderson is calling Bay's injury an intercostal strain on the left side.
"It came down to the last day and it's unfortunate that Jason hurt his ribcage," Duda said. "Obviously you don't want to see that happen. He's a great ballplayer and an even better guy so you hate to see that. But I've got to try and help the team anyway I can until Jason gets healthy."
The fact Bay did not appear in the Mets' final six spring training games will allow the team to backdate the DL stint, making him eligible to rejoin the team on April 9.
