Tampa Bay Devil Rays Team Report - July 9

(Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Devil Rays resume a four-game series on the road versus the New York Yankees tonight. Tampa Bay lost 7-1 last night. New York beat Tampa Bay starter Victor Zambrano for the first time in four tries this season. Zambrano (9-5) had beaten the Yankees three times in the first two months of the season, becoming the first pitcher since Boston's Bill Lee in 1974 to defeat New York three times before June. However on Thursday, the righthander was roughed up for five runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings. He walked seven, hit a batter and struck out seven, losing for the first time since May 15 to have a personal six-game winning streak stopped. Toby Hall had two hits for the Devil Rays, who had a two-game winning streak snapped and have dropped four of six. John Halama, a Brooklyn native, makes his fifth straight start since moving into the rotation as he gets the ball tonight for Tampa Bay. The lefthander spent the first 2 1/2 months in the bullpen. Halama has dropped his last two outings, most recently allowing seven hits and three runs in five innings of a defeat to Florida on Sunday. He is 2-3 in 11 games (6 starts) against the Yankees. Tampa, which is in the midst of an 11-game road trip, is 19-24 outside Tropicana Field this season.
