Giants' Huff on DL with anxiety issues
Huff left the team Monday morning and has been receiving treatment, the San Jose Mercury News reported.
"He had an episode of anxiety. He got some treatment and will continue to get treatment," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "We can't keep going short, so we think at this time the best thing is to go ahead and make this move and put him on the 15-day disabled list."
Asked whether the anxiety was related to on-field or off-field problems, Bochy said, "I don't know if he even knows. It could be both."
"We are always going to do all we can to help the player," he added. "That's the case with Aubrey."
Huff, who primarily plays first base and left field, had missed the past three games and last played on Saturday against the Mets, making a crucial error. He started at second base for the first time in his career and failed to cover the base on a possible double play, as the Mets rallied for a 5-4 win.
He has struggled at the plate this season, hitting .182 and getting just one hit in his past 15 plate appearances.
The Giants called up Triple-A infielder Joaquin Arias.
