From a rocking chair of broken bats from the Minnesota Twins to a custom surfboard and local wine from the Oakland A’s, the major leagues' all-time saves leader has been receiving a multitude of unique gifts. But it isn’t just opposing teams showing their respect for the future Hall of Famer. Delta Air Lines also decided to create its own tribute to Rivera.
Delta, the official airline of the New York Yankees, dedicated a 757 plane to Rivera during a ceremony at a hangar in New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport on Friday. The plane features Rivera’s signature along with his No. 42 in pinstripes.
At the hangar, Rivera also threw a ceremonial “last pitch” to Yankees manager Joe Girardi, who was once Rivera’s catcher for the Yankees in the late 1990s.
