Melvin Mora retires after 13 MLB seasons
Longtime Baltimore Oriole Melvin Mora has decided to retire after 13 seasons in the major leagues, Venezuelan newspaper Meridiano Deportes reported Thursday.
Mora, 39, played in 42 games for the Diamondbacks last season, hitting .228 with 16 RBIs before being released in June.
A utility man, Mora also spent time with the Mets and Rockies, but it was with the Orioles that he enjoyed his best years between 2000 and 2009, making two All-Star appearances.
His best season was in 2004, when he hit .340 with 27 home runs and 104 RBIs, and won a Silver Slugger Award.
Mora ends his career a .277 hitter, with 171 home runs and 754 RBIs.
