The Mets, trying to lock up their franchise player, have offered third baseman David Wright a contract extension, according to major league sources.

When it comes to predicting division winners, Ken Rosenthal and Jon Morosi only agree on one thing.Wright’s agents, Sam and Seth Levinson, responded by sending the team a counter-offer, sources said.
Representatives from both sides declined comment, and the details of the proposals are not known.
Wright, however, is believed to be seeking an extension that would approach, and perhaps surpass, left-hander Johan Santana’s club-record six-year, $137.5 million deal.
The Mets also want to sign right-hander R.A. Dickey to an extension, the team’s chief operating officer, Jeff Wilpon, told reporters Tuesday.
The club’s negotiations with Dickey, to this point, are not as advanced as those with Wright, sources said.
Dickey, a favorite for the National League Cy Young Award, which will be announced Wednesday, is under contract next season for $5 million.
Wilpon, according to the New York Times, said the team’s priority was “to go through the process with (general manager) Sandy (Alderson) and the baseball department to get both of them signed. That’s what we’re doing.”
Wilpon added that trade talks involving both players were “a backup at this point.”
