News: Bloomquist is back in the lineup Sunday, the Diamondbacks' official Twitter page reports.
Impact: Bloomquist took a day off in favor of John McDonald on Saturday, but expect Bloomquist to continue getting a majority of the starts at shortstop.
May 27, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Young (shoulder) is back in the lineup for Sunday's game, the Diamondbacks' official Twitter page reports.
Impact: Young may be in line for more rest days than usual for the near future due to the shoulder injury that sidelined him earlier this year. If so, that would mean more time for Gerardo Parra, who replaced him in center for Saturday's game.
Sun. May 27, 2012 | STATS
News: Miley did it all in the Diamondbacks' 8-5 win over the Brewers on Saturday night.
Impact: Miley gave up five runs - three earned - and eight hits in six innings for the victory. He finished with three scoreless innings after a shaky start, winning his third in a row despite two wild pitches. He also doubled and singled, improving his batting average to .444 (8 for 18).
Sun. May 27, 2012 | STATS
News: McDonald had two hits with a three-run jack in the Diamondbacks' 8-5 win over the Brewers on Saturday night.
Impact: McDonald last homered April 17 against Pittsburgh.

Impact: Parra went 4 for 4 with a walk. He entered in a 4-for-23 slump.
Sun. May 27, 2012 | STATS
News: The Arizona Diamondbacks have optioned catcher Konrad Schmidt to Triple-A Reno to make room for Hudson, who was activated from the disabled list and started Sunday's game against Milwaukee.
Impact: Hudson, the No. 2 starter in the Arizona rotation when the season began, had been on the DL since April 21 with a right shoulder injury.
Sun. May 27, 2012 | STATS
News: The Arizona Diamondbacks have optioned Schmidt to Triple-A Reno to make room for right-hander Daniel Hudson, who was activated from the disabled list and started Sunday's game against Milwaukee.
Impact: Schmidt had been recalled Tuesday after catcher Miguel Montero was sidelined with a groin strain.
May 27, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Schmidt was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Sunday, the Diamondbacks Team Website reports.
Impact: Arizona needed to clear room for Daniel Hudson, who was activated off the disabled list earlier in the day. Schmidt went 0-for-4 in his only start. With Miguel Montero expected back in the starting lineup Monday, the Diamondbacks didn't need to carry another catcher on the roster.
Sat. May 26, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Putz tossed a perfect ninth inning Saturday against the Brewers to earn save number 10.
Impact: He struck out Corey Hart to begin the ninth inning before getting Norichika Aoki and Ryan Braun to both fly out. It's been a struggle for Putz most of the season, but he has now converted four of his last five save opportunities. He has 18 strikeouts on the season to go along with just three walks.
Sat. May 26, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Miley allowed five runs (three earned) over six innings and was the winning pitcher Saturday against the Brewers.
Impact: He gave up eight hits while walking two and striking out two. All five runs came in the first three innings of the game, but Miley was able to settle down nicely to finish his outing with three scoreless innings. The win brings his record to 6-1 on the season to accompany a terrific ERA of 2.41.
Sat. May 26, 2012 | STATS
News: The possibility of losing Miguel Montero to free agency and the lack of an alternative that would bring in anyone of comparable ability led the Arizona Diamondbacks to agree to pay the catcher $60 million from 2013-17s.
Impact: Montero signed the contract on Saturday and, with his 20-month-old son Angel on his lap, said at a news conference that he never wanted to leave the organization that he has been a part of since agreeing to a $13,000 deal 11 years ago. General Manager Kevin Towers said that the free agent market will not be a good one after this season and Montero would have been at the top of the list for the 10 or so teams that will be looking for catchers.
Sat. May 26, 2012 | STATS
News: Kubel was 2 for 2 with a homer in Friday's 7-1 loss to Milwaukee.
Impact: Kubel is batting .315 at home compared to .263 on the road.
Sat. May 26, 2012 | STATS
News: Kubel was 2 for 2 with a homer in Friday's 7-1 loss to Milwaukee.
Impact: Kubel is batting .315 at home compared to .263 on the road.
Sat. May 26, 2012 | STATS
News: The Arizona right-hander, a 21-game winner last season, allowed four runs and seven hits in 5 2-3 innings in his fifth straight loss, a 7-1 defeat to Milwaukee on Friday.
Impact: Kennedy has lost more games than he did all last season.
Sat. May 26, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Montero (groin) remains out of the lineup Saturday, according to the Diamondbacks' official Twitter page.
Impact: Montero, the owner of a new five-year extension, will sit out for the fourth consecutive game Saturday. Konrad Schmidt will get the start behind the plate in Montero's place.
Sat. May 26, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Bloomquist is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Brewers, according to the Diamondbacks' official Twitter page.
Impact: Bloomquist is 16-for-38 (.421) over his last eight games, but he will take a seat Saturday in favor of John McDonald.
Sat. May 26, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Goldschmidt is back in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Brewers, according to the Diamondbacks' official Twitter page.
Impact: Goldschmidt sat out Friday in favor of Lyle Overbay, but he will be back in action Saturday night, batting fifth against Brewers starter Zack Greinke.
Sat. May 26, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Young is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Brewers, according to the Diamondbacks' official Twitter page.
Impact: The reason for Young's absence was not given, but it's likely related to the shoulder issue that cost him a month and kept him out of Wednesday's game. Consider Young day-to-day until either his shoulder improves or the Diamondbacks place him back on the DL.
Sat. May 26, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Kennedy gave up four runs off seven hits and two walks while striking out seven in 5.2 innings against the Brewers on Friday.
Impact: Another rough outing for Kennedy here, who has struggled for much of this season. He now owns a 4.65 ERA, which is almost two full points higher than his ERA from all of last season. His strikeouts are down, and he's now allowed nine home runs through his first 10 starts. Some regression from last season was to be expected, but this has been worse than what most people had thought.
Sat. May 26, 2012 | STATS
News: Blum was transferred to the 60-day disabled list with a torn oblique.
Impact: He was replaced on the roster by A.J. Pollock, a 2009 first-round draft pick who will be called up from Triple-A Reno. Blum, who opened the year 1 for 11 will be out for all of May.
Sat. May 26, 2012 | STATS
News: Saito has a calf strain for the D-Backs and is on the 15-day disabled list.
Impact: There is no word on when Saito will be back.
Fri. May 25, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Albaladejo allowed one run off one hit through 1.1 innings against Triple-A New Orleans on Thursday to notch his eight save of the season. He allowed no walks and struck out no one.
Impact: Albaladejo has been steady all season, posting a 2.38 ERA over 22.2 innings and has a 24:9 K:BB ratio. Although Kirk Gibson reassured that J.J. Putz is still his closer, there is still a chance that the team makes a move, given his 7.20 ERA. If Arizona does, it could be a trip to the DL, which would allow it to bring up Albaladejo to join the relief corps.
Fri. May 25, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Montero (groin) will likely return to the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Brewers, the Diamondbacks' official site reports.
Impact: Montero missed the team's last two games, but it appears he'll be back behind the plate Friday. "It feels pretty good right now," Montero said. "I didn't think I had to come out of the game [Monday] because it felt so much better afterward, but I think it was the right move. [The trainers] worked on it right away and I felt a difference immediately." The Diamondbacks haven't made anything official yet, so you may want to wait and be sure that Montero will return before putting him into your fantasy lineup.
Fri. May 25, 2012 | STATS
News: A person with knowledge of the situation says Montero has agreed to a five-year, $60 million contract.
Impact: Montero avoided arbitration by signing a 1-year, $5.9 million contract for this season. He and the Diamondbacks had announced in spring training that the sides were far apart and were putting the contract issue aside until the season ended. Obviously, that changed in recent weeks. The new deal will put him under contract through the 2017 season.
Fri. May 25, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Parra is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Brewers.
Impact: Parra got a spot start Wednesday as Chris Young was given the day off, but he'll be used off the bench Friday. He's hitting .246 in 41 games this season.
Fri. May 25, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Young (shoulder) is in the starting lineup Friday against the Brewers.
Impact: Manager Kirk Gibson said earlier this week that Young probably came off the disabled list a little early, and some thought a return to the DL was possible. It appears that Young is still working his way back to playing shape and needed a day off Wednesday. Feel free to plug him into your lineups.
Fri. May 25, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Goldschmidt is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Brewers.
Impact: Lyle Overbay will get another start at first. Overbay is hitting .370 in 25 games this season, and will continue to cut into Goldy's playing time.
Fri. May 25, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Montero and the Diamondbacks agreed to a 5-year, $60 million extension Friday, Jon Morosi of FoxSports.com reports.
Impact: Montero made his first All-Star game last season and finished 2011 with a .282/.351/.469 triple slash along with 18 homers and 86 RBI. His numbers are down this year to .255/.350/.343 with two homers and 21 RBI, but his defense has been nothing short of superb. He threw out 40 percent of potential base stealers in 2011, which led the league. This year, he has improved to an unheard-of 59 percent, once again leading the league.
Fri. May 25, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Montero (groin) will not start Friday against the Brewers, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: Montero has missed three consecutive games with a groin injury. Henry Blanco will start in his place.
Thu. May 24, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Saunders gave up four earned runs over 6.1 innings, but managed to strike out seven batters and walk away with a win in the D-Backs' victory over the Dodgers on Wednesday night.
Impact: Saunders has been on a rough stretch after a great start to the season. Generally, the knock on Saunders is that his K total is relatively low, but he did mow down seven on Wednesday. Chances are, this isn't a sign of things to come. With his inflated WHIP, he's due for even more regression.
Thu. May 24, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Young was held out of the lineup Wednesday after starting five straight games following his stint on the disabled list, the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: "He probably came back (from the disabled list) a tad too early," D-Backs manager Kirk Gibson said. "You go from just working out and not playing to virtually playing every day, it's hard." Gibson also cited the difference between being shape in shape vs. playing shape, so it sounds like the D-Backs may have cut Young's minor-league rehab assignment a bit too short. His status for the start of the series against the Brewers on Friday is unclear, so consider Young day-to-day for now.
Thu. May 24, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Montero (groin) missed Wednesday's game, but doesn't expect to be out much longer, the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: "I'd be lying if I said it feels like normal, but it feels pretty good," Montero said. "I was doing things today (Wednesday) that before I got hurt I couldn't do." Henry Blanco and Konrad Schmidt will handle the catching duties as long as Montero is unavailable with the minor ailment. According to the D-Backs' official site, Montero expects to rejoin the lineup Friday against the Brewers.
Thu. May 24, 2012 | RotoWire
News: D-Backs manager Kirk Gibson reaffirmed Putz's status as the team's closer Wednesday, the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: Pitch location has been the biggest issue for Putz recently, as he's regained the velocity that was missing from his fastball earlier this season. For now, Putz will continue to take the ball in the ninth inning while David Hernandez and Bryan Shaw will remain in setup roles.
Wed. May 23, 2012 | STATS
News: Cahill scattered six hits over six innings, allowing one run while striking out six and walking three in Tuesday's 8-7 loss to the Dodgers.
Impact: Cahill has allowed three or more runs in each of his previous three starts.
Wed. May 23, 2012 | STATS
News: Upton drove in a pair of runs and had three hits for the Diamondbacks in Tuesday's 8-7 loss to the Dodgers.
Impact: Upton is 9 for 20 with a homer and six RBIs in his last six games.
Wed. May 23, 2012 | STATS
News: Overbay finished with four hits in Tuesday's 8-7 loss to the Dodgers.
Impact: Overbay raised his batting average from .320 to .370.
Wed. May 23, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Hernandez threw a perfect inning in a tie game in the eighth inning against the Dodgers on Tuesday and was in line for the win before J.J. Putz blew the save in the ninth.
Impact: The blown save was Putz's third of the year. Hernandez hasn't been perfect this year (he recently had a tough outing at Colorado, though that was fueled partially by some bad defense behind him), but he's been better than Putz, with a 2.25 ERA and a 29:7 K:BB in 20 innings.
Wed. May 23, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Putz gave up two runs on one hit and two walks while blowing a save opportunity for the third time this season Tuesday night against the Dodgers.
Impact: In addition to squandering a larger lead earlier in the game, Putz's blown save followed a go-ahead home run from Lyle Overbay in the eighth inning. Putz's fastball topped out just below 94 mph in Wednesday's outing, but he could be losing his grip on the closer's role if his struggles persist.
Wed. May 23, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Roberts went 2-for-4 with a run scored while starting at second base for the D-Backs on Tuesday night.
Impact: He's shifting into a utility role for now, with Josh Bell in line to start at third base if he proves capable of hitting big league pitching at a useful clip. Roberts continues to swing the bat with more consistency in May, however, and could wrestle a starting job away from Bell or second baseman Aaron Hill in the coming weeks.
Wed. May 23, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Bell homered while going 1-for-4 with a strikeout in Tuesday's loss to the Dodgers.
Impact: Ryan Roberts started the game at second base, so it appears the shift to a utility role is in effect at the present time as Bell has started both contests at third base since being called up from Triple-A Reno on Monday night. Although he's 2-for-7 with a homer, Bell has already fanned three times.
Wed. May 23, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Montero (groin) will likely miss a few days, but should be able to avoid the DL, the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: With Dan Hudson expected to return from the 15-day DL to rejoin the rotation this weekend, the D-Backs will have a few days with an extra catcher on the roster (Konrad Schmidt) which will enable Montero to rest before potentially getting back into the fold in a few days.
Tue. May 22, 2012 | STATS
News: The Arizona Diamondbacks have recalled catcher Konrad Schmidt from Triple-A Reno following the injury to starter Miguel Montero.
Impact: Montero sustained what the team called a mild groin strain while chasing a foul ball to the screen in Monday night's 6-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. While Montero was not been placed on the disabled list, the injury had left 40-year-old Henry Blanco as the only healthy catcher on the Arizona roster.
Tue. May 22, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Hudson (shoulder) will start on Sunday against the Brewers, according to Jack Magruder of FOXSportsArizona.com.
Impact: Hudson must have shown enough in his rehab start on Monday in Triple-A Reno to get back in the rotation. He pitched five innings in the game, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out two and only walking one. If he can regain his 2011 form, he will be a huge addition to a Diamondbacks rotation that, besides Wade Miley, has been largely disappointing.
Tue. May 22, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Montero (groin), who is not in Tuesday's lineup, won't be in Wednesday's lineup either, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Impact: The D-Backs hope that Montero will avoid a DL stint, but in the meantime, Henry Blanco will see extra work.
Tue. May 22, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Hill is not in the lineup Tuesday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Impact: Ryan Roberts is starting at second base and batting second for the D-Backs on Tuesday night.
Tue. May 22, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Goldschmidt is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Impact: Lyle Overbay is playing first base, while Goldschmidt takes a seat after collecting a hit in each of his last three games.
Tue. May 22, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Montero (groin) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Impact: Henry Blanco will replace him in the lineup against Dodgers right-hander Aaron Harang on Tuesday. Montero is considered day-to-day for now.
Tue. May 22, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Drew (ankle) does not have a timetable to begin his rehab assignment after a recent setback, the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: He's dealing with ankle soreness after pushing himself through Thursday's extended spring training game, and it sounds like it could be a few weeks before Drew is ready to rejoin the Arizona lineup.
Tue. May 22, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Schmidt has been called up by the D-Backs, Jack Magruder of FSN Arizona reports.
Impact: With Miguel Montero day-to-day, Schmidt will be added insurance at catcher for Arizona. He has been a fairly average minor league hitter over his career, and is solid defensively. It's unlikely he'll hold any fantasy value, especially since Montero's injury may only sideline him for a couple of days.
Tue. May 22, 2012 | RotoWire
News: With Josh Bell called up, Ryan Roberts is now in more of a utility role and could get some of Hill's starts at second base, the Diamondbacks' official site reports.
Impact: Hill is having a mediocre campaign at the plate, hitting .235/.321/.396 with five homers and four stolen bases. That sort of production won't make him an everyday lock in the lineup with Roberts becoming a bigger part of the picture at second base.
Tue. May 22, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Roberts will be relegated to more of a utility role with Josh Bell called up to start at third base, the Diamondbacks' official site reports.
Impact: Manager Kirk Gibson suggested that a good portion of Roberts' playing time could come at second base instead of third.
Tue. May 22, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Bell will be the Diamondbacks' everyday third baseman for the time being, the Diamondbacks' official site reports. Bell went 1-for-3 with two strikeouts Monday night.
Impact: "He'll get a lot of playing time, yes," D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said. "He was very productive [at Reno], we feel like he deserved an opportunity to come up here. It'll move Ryan Roberts to more of a utility guy, he might play more second base, move him around a little bit, he's versatile in that role." The Diamondbacks are grasping for solutions right now, and the decision to turn to Bell reflects a certain amount of desperation. A point in his favor is that he never really got an extended major league trial, with just 220 career major league at-bats. There's plenty of speculation that he's just keeping the seat warm for Matt Davidson - hitting the ground running will be vital for Bell.
Tue. May 22, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Montero is day-to-day after straining his left groin during Monday's game, but said Tuesday that "it feels a lot better," the Diamondbacks' official site reports.
Impact: Montero stayed in the game immediately following the injury, but was pinch hit for when the Diamondbacks came up to bat. "I didn't feel any pop, thank God," Montero said. "It was just kind of crampy. It's still early in the season, you don't want it to get worse." It appears the 28-year-old was removed for precautionary reasons, but he may be held out until after Thursday's off-day. "A day or two, I don't think more than that, we've got two more games here, then a day off Thursday. I don't know we'll see," he said.
Tue. May 22, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Hudson (shoulder) had a successful rehab assignment in Triple-A Reno on Monday, going five innings, allowing five hits, two runs (both earned), one walk while striking out two, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: If all continues as it is, Hudson will likely rejoin the D-Backs this weekend against the Brewers. Team sources say that Hudson's velocity topped out at 97 mph, a very encouraging sign. Ideally, Hudson will return to his 2011 form, when he won 16 games with a 3.49 ERA while striking out 169 in 33 starts.
Mon. May 21, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Montero left Monday night's game in the sixth inning after chasing a pop foul behind home plate, the Diamondbacks' official site reports.
Impact: The Diamondbacks might be forced to make a move Tuesday if the injuries looks likely to cost Montero more than a game or two, given his position.
Mon. May 21, 2012 | STATS
News: The Arizona Diamondbacks have recalled third baseman Josh Bell from Triple-A Reno and designated infielder Cody Ransom for assignment.
Impact: Bell was batting .381 with nine doubles, a triple, four home runs and 30 RBIs in 26 games for Reno. The 25-year-old switch-hitter was in Arizona's starting lineup against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night. Bell, 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, appeared in 79 major league games for Baltimore from 2010-11. He was acquired from the Orioles on April 21 for Mike Belfiore. Bell was a fourth-round draft pick of the Dodgers in 2005.
Mon. May 21, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Montero left Monday's game in the bottom of the sixth inning with an apparent leg strain.
Impact: No specifics regarding the location of the strain were provided, but Henry Blanco took over when Montero's turn in the lineup came up in the sixth inning. Montero was 0-for-2 prior to departing and should be considered day-to-day.
Mon. May 21, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Bell is starting at third base and batting eighth for Arizona on Monday against lefty Chris Capuano, the D-Backs' official Twitter feed reports.
Impact: It's a bit surprising that Bell is starting over Ryan Roberts against a lefty, but this could be an early indication that the D-Backs want to see if he can maintain any of the success he's had at hitter-friendly Reno. Interestingly enough, a low contact rate was likely the reason Cody Ransom was jettisoned from the roster, and avoiding the strikeout has been a major obstacle for Bell during his brief time in the big leagues and throughout his career in the minors.
Mon. May 21, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Roberts is not in the starting lineup Monday against lefty Chris Capuano, the D-Backs' official Twitter feed reports.
Impact: While it recently appeared as though Roberts was on the brink of turning things around and taking back his starting job at third base, it's a bit concerning that he's sitting against a lefty (career .813 OPS against them) while Josh Bell immediately starts at third base despite a slightly worse .773 mark at Triple-A against southpaws over the past two seasons.
Mon. May 21, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Bell has been called up by the D-Backs, the team's official Twitter feed reports.
Impact: He'll replace Cody Ransom on the roster and has a chance to push Ryan Roberts for playing time at third base, or at least work his way into an eventual platoon arrangement where Roberts sits against righties if he's able to hit during this opportunity against big league pitching. Bell carried a 1.048 OPS over 26 games at hitter-friendly Reno after being claimed off waivers by the D-Backs from the Orioles in April.
May 20, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Putz recorded his ninth save of the season with a clean inning against the Royals on Sunday.
Impact: Putz struggled with the home run ball in the last half of April and the first week of May, resulting in a pair of blown saves and a 6.43 ERA. Still, Putz has a 16:1 K:BB ratio in his 14 innings this season and a secure grip on the closer job, so there shouldn't be any concerns going forward.
May 20, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Miley picked up a fifth win with seven shutout innings, allowing just six hits and two walks Sunday against the Royals.
Impact: Miley has been fantastic as a replacement piece in the Diamondbacks' rotation following Josh Collmenter's demotion to the bullpen and Dan Hudson's injury, with a 2.14 ERA to go with the five wins. He's stranding five of six baserunners right now, however, and as that comes back to earth so will he. But how far? A 3.27 FIP gives reason for optimism, but he gives up loads of contact (7.8% swinging strike rate), and that means home runs will likely be coming too.
May 20, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Schmidt went 3-for-4 with three runs, a double, a home run, a walk and four RBI for Triple-A Reno on Saturday.
Impact: Schmidt is a decent catcher if you're simply looking for organizational depth. He is slightly above-average defensively and has a little bit of pop in his bat, but he has yet to put together a strong enough season to warrant regular playing time in the majors. He did receive a call-up back in 2010, but didn't fare very well and hasn't been back since. If either Miguel Montero or Henry Blanco gets hurt, Schmidt will likely receive a promotion, but that's probably the only scenario that puts him in a Diamondbacks uniform this year.
May 20, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Upton has gone 6-for-20 with a home run, four RBI, a 7:4 BB:K and a pair of stolen bases over his last six games.
Impact: According to the D-Backs' official site, Upton is seeing the ball better at the plate, which has significantly changed his plate discipline from where it's been throughout the first six-plus weeks of the season. "It's a combination of seeing the ball better and pitchers just not throwing strikes," Upton said. "I think early on I was chasing out of my zone a little bit. I have done a better job of making sure the pitches are in the zone. I also haven't been seeing many pitches over the plate." The surge over the past week could be foreshadowing a breakout for the struggling outfielder, as Upton's current .705 OPS is nearly 200 points below where he finished in 2011.
May 20, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Breslow has posted a 17:8 K:BB over 20.2 innings in 18 appearances with the D-Backs this season.
Impact: He's been a very effective option in middle relief for manager Kirk Gibson, carrying a 1.31 ERA and 0.919 WHIP to this point. Breslow has provided a steady left-handed presence in the Arizona bullpen after Rule 5 pick Joe Paterson spent most of the 2011 campaign as the team's only relief option from the left side.
May 20, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Roberts went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Saturday's loss to Kansas City.
Impact: According to the Arizona Republic, Roberts has changed his approach during batting practice and set up a game to help him work on driving pitches up the middle more regularly. It has paid off in recent weeks, as Roberts has a .340/.370/.440 line over his last 16 games while striking out just six times in his last 50 at-bats compared to 15 whiffs in his first 66. Further, Roberts has managed to take back the larger share of the at-bats at third base from Cody Ransom after finding his way to the bench regularly in late April.
May 20, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Drew (ankle) will play in one or two more extended spring training games before heading to Triple-A Reno to begin his rehab assignment, the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: Given the severity of the injury that Drew is returning from, it should come as little surprise that the D-Backs are easing him along after he experienced soreness following an extended spring training game Thursday.
Sat. May 19, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Goldschmidt went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in the Diamondbacks' loss to the Royals on Saturday.
Impact: This was Goldschmidt's third three-hit game of May, but six hitless starts have neutralized any batting average gains. He has six doubles in the month but only one home run.

News: Drew (ankle) may have the start of his rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno pushed back a day or two after he experienced soreness following Thursday's extended spring training game, the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: D-Backs manager Kirk Gibson didn't refer to the adjustment as a setback for Drew, but instead a hurdle that the shortstop needs to cross before he'll be able to return from the DL and join the Arizona lineup. Keep in mind, that Drew still hasn't been able to play in games on consecutive days, so his time spent at Reno could last a few weeks as he continues to work his way back into game shape.
Fri. May 18, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Young (shoulder) has been activated from the 15-day DL, the D-Backs' official Twitter feed reports.
Impact: He only needed one game at Triple-A Reno after three at High-A Visalia for a minor league rehab assignment. Young will replace A.J. Pollock on the roster, and should immediately return to the lineup Friday night.
Fri. May 18, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Putz walked one batter but still pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record his eighth save of the season Friday against the Royals.
Impact: That's now saves on back-to-back nights and three straight appearances without allowing a run. Putz credits a mechanical change for his increased velocity and reasonably improved command and looks to be a much safer option now than he did just two weeks ago.
Fri. May 18, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Saunders allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out two over six innings against the Royals on Friday.
Impact: After 105 pitches, Saunders left with the lead only to watch the bullpen give it up and leave him with a no-decision. Still, given the fact that he had coughed up a total of 12 runs in his two previous starts, losing the win was the last thing Saunders' owners were concerned with. His next start comes at home against the Dodgers, but considering their rash of injuries, he might just be an option to stream.

News: Young has a right shoulder contusion and has landed on the 15-day DL.
Impact: Young, the Diamondbacks' leading hitter at .405 with five homers and 13 RBIs, was injured while tracking down a fly ball by Pedro Alvarez in left-center in the fourth.
Fri. May 18, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Bell went 3-for-5 with three doubles and three runs scored against Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday.
Impact: Bell hit a mini-slump, going 1-for-7 over his previous three games, but bounced back nicely here and seems ready to continue his assault on PCL pitching. Though he didn't clear the fences this game, two of his doubles went to the deepest part of the park and probably would have left the field of play at numerous other stadiums. He is hitting .409 with a 1.110 OPS and has four home runs and eight doubles since being called up to Triple-A.
Fri. May 18, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Roberts is not in the starting lineup Friday, the D-Backs' official Twitter feed reports.
Impact: Cody Ransom is starting at third base, while Roberts is getting a day off after starting each of the D-Backs' previous eight games.
Fri. May 18, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Young (shoulder) will DH in his return to the D-Backs' lineup Friday, the team's official Twitter feed reports.
Impact: With the flexibility of the DH spot during interleague play, the D-Backs can ease Young back into action as an outfielder in the coming days. Young is batting fifth for manager Kirk Gibson on Friday night.
Thu. May 17, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Cahill labored in Thursday's start at Colorado, giving up four runs and five hits in five innings. He did not record a decision, issuing three walks and striking out six.
Impact: Cahill has been dealing with tenderness in his right shoulder, but we'll assume his poor outing was due to his usual inconsistency. After opening the season with two strong outings, Cahill has recorded just two quality starts in his last six.
Thu. May 17, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Putz pitched a scoreless ninth inning Thursday to register the save at Colorado.
Impact: It did not look good for Putz, as he allowed three straight singles to begin the ninth. He retired the next two batters on a strikeout and double play, however, to record his seventh save of the year. Even though Putz nailed down the save, things haven't come easy for him this year, as he has just three clean outings in 13 appearances.

News: Montero will be back behind the plate for Arizona on Thursday after a scheduled day off Wednesday, the Diamondbacks' official Twitter account reports.

News: Bloomquist will be back in the starting lineup Thursday against the Rockies, the Diamondbacks' official Twitter reports.
Impact: Bloomquist will return to the two hole for the D-Backs after sitting out two of the last four contests. He has gotten off to a rough start in 2012, as his hit count (25) is just one higher than his strikeout total. Bloomquist may begin to surrender more playing time to John McDonald.
Thu. May 17, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Drew (ankle) will play in another extended spring training game Thursday and remains on track to join Triple-A Reno on Sunday, the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: There's still no word as to how long the D-Backs expect Drew to be with the Aces on his full rehab assignment, but considering that he hasn't played in complete games on consecutive days yet, it's reasonable to think that he will need a couple of weeks to get back into full game shape for the D-Backs.
Thu. May 17, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Young (shoulder) went 1-for-4 with a grand slam at High-A Visalia on Wednesday, the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: D-Backs manager Kirk Gibson said that Young has an outside shot at returning to the lineup during the weekend series with the Royals, but he's going to continue his rehab work Thursday when he reports to Triple-A Reno.
Thu. May 17, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Hudson (shoulder) will make his next rehab start Monday at Triple-A Reno and could rejoin the Arizona rotation after that outing, the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: He threw 54 pitches during an extended spring training game Wednesday, and manager Kirk Gibson said that Hudson is currently on track to return May 26 or 27 against the Brewers.
Thu. May 17, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Putz's increased velocity during Tuesday's outing was the result of a mechanical change in his delivery, the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: Pitching coach Charles Nagy spotted a flaw: Putz wasn't moving back in his delivery before coming to the plate, which ultimately may explain the lost velocity on his fastball earlier this season. Manager Kirk Gibson gave Putz a vote of confidence as his closer last week, and the return of the life on his fastball certainly bodes well for his efforts to remain in his current role.
Wed. May 16, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Hudson (shoulder) threw 54 pitches over 2.1 innings in an extended spring training game on Wednesday, the Diamondbacks' official Twitter page reports.
Impact: Hudson gave up two runs on two hits and allowed two walks while striking out three. Afterwards, he said his "arm feels great. My command is not where I want it to be." He will throw a bullpen session on Saturday, and it appears he's on track to return near the end of the month.
Wed. May 16, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Blanco will catch and bat eighth against the Rockies on Wednesday, the Diamondbacks' official Twitter page reports.
Impact: Blanco will be behind the plate with Miguel Montero getting a day off. Left-hander Jamie Moyer, who will take the bump for Colorado, likely won't be happy to see Blanco in there. He's 5-for-11 lifetime against Moyer.
Wed. May 16, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Goldschmidt is back in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies, the Diamondbacks' official Twitter page reports.
Impact: Lyle Overbay filled in for Goldschmidt on Tuesday for the second time in four days. Goldschmidt batting .218 on the year and is just 3-for-23 since May 6. He'll look to get back on track against lefty Jamie Moyer.
Wed. May 16, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Montero is not in Wednesday's starting lineup, the Diamondbacks' official Twitter page reports.
Impact: Montero has been behind the plate for nine straight contests, so it should come as little surprise that he's getting a day off. Henry Blanco will catch and bat eighth in his absence.
Wed. May 16, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Bloomquist is not in Wednesday's starting lineup, the Diamonbacks' official Twitter page reports.
Impact: John McDonald will be in at shortstop while Bloomquist gets his second game off in the last four days. The 34-year-old Bloomquist is just 7-for-33 in May and he may see fewer chances atop the Diamonbacks' batting order.
Wed. May 16, 2012 | STATS
News: Miley scattered eight hits and walked one in 6 2-3 innings, limiting Los Angeles to just one run Tuesday in a 5-1 win over the Dodgers.
Impact: The 25-year-old left-hander is 3-1 with a 2.35 ERA in five starts since being inserted into the rotation on April 23 to replace Daniel Hudson, who is out with a right shoulder impingement. "A win anywhere is a big win right now,'' Miley said.

News: Cahill has been declared ready for his scheduled start Thursday after experiencing tenderness in his right shoulder following his most recent outing, the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: Manager Kirk Gibson and trainer Ken Crenshaw monitored Cahill's bullpen session Tuesday before declaring him ready to go, so it doesn't appear as though this is an issue to be concerned about for the young right-hander.
Wed. May 16, 2012 | RotoWire
News: D-Backs manager Kirk Gibson said that Young (shoulder) has an "outside shot" of joining the team in Kansas City this weekend, the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: Young is scheduled to progress to Triple-A Reno in the next phase of his rehab assignment, but it's possible that he'll only need a couple of games there after reporting Thursday before the D-Backs bring him back into the mix as their regular center fielder.
Wed. May 16, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Putz was hitting 95-96 mph with his fastball during a scoreless inning against the Dodgers on Tuesday night, the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: It's an encouraging sign from the D-Backs closer after his average fastball velocity was hovering below 92 mph for the season entering his appearance Tuesday. It's unclear if the coaching staff spotted something in his delivery while reviewing video with Putz recently, or if the addition of a cutter this spring (which has since been scrapped) ultimately cost him a few ticks on his fastball through the first six weeks of the season.
Tue. May 15, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Miley earned the win Tuesday against the Dodgers, scattering eight hits over 6.2 innings, allowing just one run.
Impact: It was a solid performance, but the Dodgers' lineup was depleted, missing Matt Kemp among others -- Justin Sellers, Jerry Sands and Scott Van Slyke were all in the starting lineup. Still, with five strikeouts to just one walk and just the one run allowed, no complaints from the Diamondbacks nor Miley's owners Tuesday night.
Tue. May 15, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Young (shoulder) is slated to head to Triple-A Reno for rehab after playing one more game at High-A Visalia on Wednesday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: Kirk Gibson said he wasn't quite sure when Young would be ready to return. Projections of near the end of the week seem most reasonable, as Young will likely play multiple games at Reno.
Tue. May 15, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Goldschmidt is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Dodgers, the Diamondbacks' official Twitter feed reports.
Impact: Goldschmidt, who is on an 0-for-10 slide that has seen his average drop to .218, will give way to Lyle Overbay at first base Tuesday.

News: Drew (ankle) played nine innings during an extended spring training game Tuesday and went 2-for-4 with a double, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: He's scheduled to do the same Thursday, and the D-Backs suggested Monday that Drew could be headed to Triple-A Reno to begin a rehab assignment as early as Sunday if everything continues to go as planned.

News: Drew (ankle) may begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Reno on Sunday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

News: Saunders had another rough outing Sunday, giving up six runs on 10 hits and a walk over five innings.

Mon. May 14, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Upton went 0-for-3 with a walk in Sunday's loss to the Giants, dropping his line to .225/.318/.342 on the season.
Impact: Upton had a couple of big games after recovering from his thumb injury, but all around he's been disappointing, particularly in the power department. He's had slow starts before only to rally, so don't expect this to last, unless his thumb is bothering him more than he's letting on.
Mon. May 14, 2012 | RotoWire
News: Drew (ankle) will play nine innings Tuesday and Thursday in extended spring training, the Arizona Republic reports.

Impact: Drew started on a mat before proceeding to slides on the infield dirt during Saturday's session. Ultimately, taking that step was as much of a mental obstacle for Drew as a physical one given that he suffered his injury while sliding into home plate during a game last season.
