News: Lincecum has won the NL Cy Young Award, becoming the first repeat winner in the major leagues since Randy Johnson was voted the prize four straight times from 1999-2002.
Impact: Lincecum led the NL with 261 strikeouts and tied for the league lead with four complete games and two shutouts. Only 10 points separated Lincecum and St. Louis pitchers Chris Carpenter and Adam Wainwright in one of the closest ballots in the award's history.

News: Despite not receiving the most first place votes, or even the most second place votes, Tim Lincecum has won his second straight National League Cy Young award, according to the Associated Press. St. Louis' Chris Carpenter finished second, while Adam Wainwright finished third.
Impact: It was one of the closest votes in the history of the award. While either Carpenter or Wainwright bested Lincecum in many key categories, including wins, innings pitched, ERA and WHIP, Lincecum posted the league's most strikeouts, complete games, shutouts, strikeouts per nine innings and best strikeout-to-walk ratio. Congratulations to Lincecum on becoming the first pitcher in either league to win the award in consecutive seasons since Randy Johnson won four straight from 1999-2002.

News: MLB.com is reporting that Giants' ace Tim Lincecum will be forced to appear in court for his arrest on marijuana possession. Lincecum has agreed to a plea deal in which he will pay a $372 fine for buying a smoking pipe, and the rest of the charges will be dropped.
Impact: The judge informed Lincecum that he would have to appear in court like everyone else if he wanted him to sign off on the deal. No word yet if Lincecum will be able to afford the hefty $372 fine, but we have a feeling he can find the money somewhere.

News: According to the San Jose Mercury News, the chances of Bengie Molina returning to the Giants are not looking promising.
Impact: The Giants are open to bringing Molina back for one year, but don't want to pay him more than the $6 million he made last season. Molina on the other hand wants a two-year deal with a significant bump in pay, so he'll likely look elsewhere. The Giants will likely offer him arbitration as he's a Type A free agent, but won't commit to more than a year with top prospect Buster Posey waiting in the wings. Look for them to target another veteran backstop, like, say, Pudge Rodriguez. Stay tuned.

News: Giants recalled Burriss from Triple-A Fresno and placed him on the 60-day disabled list Tuesday.
Impact: Burris is out for the year with a broken left toe.

News: The Giants are open to bringing Molina, a Type-A free agent, back for a one-year contract, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact: Buster Posey is waiting in the wing, but the Giants are likely to bring in a veteran if Molina leaves in order to give Posey one more year of seasoning. Molina is looking for a two-year deal and a raise, but other clubs may be scared off by his Type-A status so he may end up settling for the Giants' offer of arbitration.

News: Winn has filed for free agency and is not expected to return to San Francisco, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact: The Giants contacted Winn's agent before the season and informed him that the team will be going young in the outfield and won't attempt to re-sign Winn. The 35-year-old switch-hitter hit just .262 with two homers, but is still pretty athletic for his age and is a hard worker who plays smart defensively. He might look to catch on with a contending team and take himself off the list he currently heads: most regular season games played without a postseason appearance.

News: According to the Mercury News, the San Francisco Giants have informed outfielder Randy Winn that he should seek employment elsewhere for next season. Winn has said that he would like to return to the team next season, but they have no interest in bringing him back.
Impact: Winn has to be a bit disappointed, as he made no secret about the fact that he loved playing with the team. He wants an everyday starting job, and there won't be one available for him with the Giants. He doesn't figure to make a fantasy impact regardless of where he ends up next year.

News: Lincecum's marijuana possession charge was dropped in a standard plea deal, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact: Lincecum will still have to pay a $250 fine related to possession of a marijuana-smoking device, as well as a speeding fine. He won't need to attend court, and the possession charges will be dropped. The Giants haven't commented on the situation yet, but expect little if any disciplinary action.

News: According to Sports Illustrated, Giants ace Tim Lincecum has been cited for marijuana possession.
Impact: Little Timmy Lincecum appears to be all grown up. He was pulled over for speeding in his home state of Washington, when the police officer smelled marijuana smoke in his vehicle. The 2008 Cy Young award winner handed over a pipe and 3.3 grams of weed and was fined $622 for the infraction. Lincecum smudged his image a bit, but fantasy owners likely won't care as long as he keeps throwing fireballs in the regular season.

News: Lincecum is facing misdemeanor marijuana charges following a traffic stop in his home state. Washington State Patrol spokesman Steve Schatzel said Thursday that the 2008 Cy Young Award winner and former star at the University of Washington was pulled over for speeding on Interstate 5 about four miles north of the Oregon border on Oct. 30.
Impact: An officer approached Lincecum's 2006 Mercedes and smelled marijuana. Schatzel says Lincecum immediately complied with a request to hand over the drug and a marijuana pipe. The amount measured was 3.3 grams. Schatzel says police consider that a small amount for personal use. Lincecum was fined a total of $622 for driving at 74 mph in a 60-mph zone, and for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Impact: Lincecum was pulled over for speeding on October 30. When the officer smelled marijuana, Lincecum immediately complied and handed over all drug paraphernalia. He was fined $622, but we'd be surprised if this affects his 2010 status.

News: The Giants placed Miller on the 60-day DL with inflammation in his throwing elbow, ending his season.
Impact: Miller, emotional and discouraged, said his elbow injury was a problem for him last year while with Florida. It's bothered him more in the last three weeks. "It's something I tried to pitch through," said Miller, who went 3-3 with a 3.18 ERA in 44 outings this season. "It's tough. It's disappointing. I'll root these guys on. For me, it was the last thing I wanted to hear."

News: Lowry remains sidelined after a variety of surgeries, the latest of which removed the first rib on his left side due to symptoms from a circulatory problem known as thoracic outlet syndrome.
Impact: Lowry went 14-8 with a 3.92 ERA in 2007, but missed all last season after undergoing forearm surgery. He's also been bothered by shoulder problems. His long-awaited return to baseball is still uncertain.

News: The Giants have sent Pichardo to Triple-A Fresno, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact: Pichardo didn't make a single appearance for San Francisco last season.

News: The Giants have outrighted Miller to Triple-A Fresno, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact: Miller has the right to refuse the assignment, so he'll become a free agent. The Giants might attempt to re-sign Miller, who had a right elbow cleanup after the season.

News: The Giants have re-signed Freddy Sanchez with a two-year deal worth $12MM, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Impact: Sanchez is taking a $2.1MM pay cut for 2010 in return for $6MM in 2011. The club examined his surgically-repaired left knee this morning, and it is apparently healing fine.
Fri. Oct 30, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Lowry has been removed from the 40-man roster by the Giants and will become a free agent, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact: He hasn't pitched since 2007 due to forearm, elbow, shoulder and rib injuries. He'll need to prove he's healthy this offseason to find another deal, although his agent says he's throwing three days a week without any problems.
Fri. Oct 30, 2009 | RotoWire
News: Sanchez (knee) agreed to a two-year, $12 million contract to remain with the Giants, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact: The contract eliminated an $8.1 million option for next season. The Giants also approved the deal after checking on the progress of his left knee, which required surgery to repair a torn meniscus, so it sounds like he's making progress.
