BMW driver Nick Heidfeld has called for the Formula One's governing bodies to include more races and less testing on the F1 calendar.

This season has 18 races, one more than last season's 17, while next year will see the calendar increase to 19 with the inclusion of a race in India.

The German driver insists Formula One needs to be more about racing and less about testing. "I'm looking forward to having more races as is planned for the future," he told his team website.

"Though I wouldn't mind missing one or two tests. Actually the tests have been reduced quite a lot over the last two or three years, but I hope we have more races because there is not one that I don't like."

He added: "I'm looking forward to going to India and the other interesting new places currently being discussed."

The 31-year-old also admitted he misses driving in the United States of America at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as the race has recently been axed from the F1 calendar. "I think it's a pity because for me Formula 1, being a World Championship, should race everywhere in the world. But I think there's a good chance we will go to the States in the future," he said.

Next up for the F1 drivers is the street race in Valencia, the European Grand Prix on 24 August.
