Mexico are reportedly in the running to host a Formula One Grand Prix when the calendar is expanded in 2010.

FIA vice-president Jose Abed claims F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone is deciding whether to award the Central American nation the opportunity to host motorsport's biggest show-piece.

Ecclestone is expected to add two extra races in the season after next with the likes of Russia, Egypt and Mexico all vying for a lucrative spot on the calendar.

"Those changes will be made by 2010 and, if it happens, Mexico will have to work hard to have a proper track," Abed said.

"Even so, we must wait for Bernie Ecclestone's decision to include Mexico."

The 68-year-old administrator was a part of the group that ran the Mexican GP in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
