Lap 249: Jimmie Johnson keeps peeking underneath Gordon but cannot make the pass for the lead.

Jorge Mondaca on Lap 246: Cue up the Jaws music -- Jimmie has Jeff in his sights.

Lap 244: Jimmie Johnson is looking underneath Gordon again. This is going to be a battle to the finish.

Lap 241: Mark Martin passes Clint Bowyer for fourth.

Lap 231: Clint Bowyer stayed out and is your new race leader. Jeff Gordon is second. Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson and Matt Kenseth are the rest of the top five.

Radio chatter after the pit stops: No. 24 crew chief Steve Letarte: "I went a head and freed it up because the rights (tires) are going to tighten you up"

Lap 229: Leaders come into the pits. Second-place Jimmie Johnson getting four tires and a track bar change. Leader Jeff Gordon takes two tires and is out in front. Kevin Harvick also takes two tires and comes out second.

CAUTION 7 - Lap 228: Kevin Conway brings out the caution. David Reutimann gets the lucky dog free pass.

Lap 226: Jimmie Johnson: "Looks like I'm tight again here"

Jeff Hammond: Just listened to the 48 team's radio. It looks like Jimmie Johnson is about to take the lead.

Radio chatter on Lap 132: Earl Barban, Johnson's spotter: "Oh yeah boss, go get him (Gordon)." Lead is down to 0.358 seconds.

Radio chatter on Lap 128: Matt Kenseth: "Still too tight. Car changed when the clouds came over. I'm just going to keep driving a nice pace."

Lap 127: Jimmie Johnson cutting into Jeff Gordon's lead up front - down to 0.804 seconds

Lap 123: Jimmie Johnson takes over second place.

Lap 119: Jeff Gordon definitely the best car on track. Battle is for second now between Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson.

Lap 114: Jeff Gordon storms to the lead. Scott Speed drops to fourth.

RESTART - Lap 113: Top five  - Scott Speed (did not pit), Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Matt Kenseth.

Lap 110: After spending time in the garage for repairs, Juan Pablo Montoya is back out on track.

Jeff Gordon after the pit stop: "Good job guys, that could have been a lot worse"

Lap 109: Leaders come onto pit road. Jeff Gordon overshoots his pit stall and loses a position during his stop (gas only). Jimmie Johnson leaves the garage first.

CAUTION 6 - Lap 106: The caution light came on randomly and triggered the caution. This is the second time a caution light triggers a caution today.

Lap 100: Montoya - "Plain and simple, he wrecked us."

Lap 100: Oh by the way - Michael Waltrip Racing cars running 13th, 14th and 15th

Lap 98: Great battle for the lead up front - Jeff Gordon is side-by-side with leader Kenseth.

Lap 97: Jamie McMurray tells team "Something broke, it won't turn."

RESTART - Lap 97: Matt Kenseth leads. AJ Allmendinger got the free pass and is back on lead lap.

By the way, Montoya is off the track, McMurray and Busch are on the track.

Juan Pablo Montoya continues to be animated on the radio during the caution - this is not good for team chemistry at Earnhardt Ganassi Racing.

Jamie McMurray: "The water temperature is pegged. It's 300"

Montoya: "That a******* (McMurray) he ran me high and into the fence." McMurray took blame for the incident over the radio - but may not like that comment.

CAUTION 5 - Lap 93: Big crash in Turn 4 involving Juan Pablo Montoya, teammate Jamie McMurray and Kurt Busch. McMurray went up the line a bit and ran into his teammate Montoya and they both went into the wall. Kurt Busch had nowhere to go - tough luck for the hometown polesitter.

RESTART - Lap 92: Matt Kenseth leads at the restart, teammate Carl Edwards is second. Scott Speed is the lucky dog free pass winner and is back on lead lap.

Lap 90: Dale Jr. lost four spots on pit road. That's six lost positions in two pit stops today.

Lap 89: Pit stops and everybody is in. Matt Kenseth out first, followed by Carl Edwards and Jeff Gordon -- all took four tires.

Radio chatter on Lap 88: Kenseth: "Give me a little more front grip, Todd. I think I could have run him down but I didnt want to ruin the front end"

CAUTION 4 - Lap 87: Sam Hornish Jr. loses control on the frontstretch and takes a spin through the grass.

Lap 85: Crew chief Parrott asks Kenseth if the balance is better with the changes on the last stop. "Running a bit loose off of 4 but pretty good," Kenseth said. Kenseth has gained three spots since the stop.

Lap 82: Carl Edwards passes teammate Greg Biffle for fourth.

Lap 79: Kenseth talking with spotter Mike Calinoff about what line 48 has been running. Calinoff: "He ran the bottom that time by"

Lap 77: Crew chief Todd Parrott tells Matt Kenseth he just ran a 30.90 -- same as the 24 in front of him and the 48 behind

Lap 72: Jimmie Johnson up to third.

Lap 71: Chad Knaus tell Jimmie Johnson he is the fastest car on the racetrack. Last lap for the No. 48 was a 30.90.

Lap 67: Jimmie Johnson takes fourth from Kyle Busch.

Lap 67: Joe Nemechek goes behind the wall.

Lap 60: Kurt Busch scrapes the wall in Turn 2.

Lap 57: Jeff Gordon got a huge jump on Biffle on the restart and takes the lead again.

RESTART - Lap 56: Greg Biffle leads.

CAUTION 3 - Lap 53: Debris on the track. Greg Biffle jumped into the lead at the restart as Jeff Gordon started losing positions at the start. Jeff Gordon on radio: "I should have taken the bottom on that one (the restart)"

RESTART - Lap 52: Top five - Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch, Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards and Kurt Busch. Dale Jr. drops to seventh.

Lap 51: An extra lap was added to this caution for debris on the track.

Lap 47: Leaders come into the pits for service.Jeff Gordon comes in the leader and leaves first - four tires and gas.

Radio chatter on Lap 46: No. 24 Crew Chief Steve Letarte: You're real fast so let's not get (the car) too loose

Lap 46: Sam Hornish Jr. is the lucky dog free pass winner and will get back on the lead lap.

CAUTION 2 - Lap 45: Oh no! the Kim Kardashian-sponsored No. 36 driven by Mike Bliss slams into the wall in Turn 2 to bring out the caution.

Lap 45: Dale Jr. passes Kurt Busch for 5th.

Lap 43: Pit stops should be coming within the next 10 laps.

Lap 41: Bobby Labonte off the pace - seems to be having an engine issue.

Lee Spencer says on Lap 39: Comparing water temperatures on the 43 to the 48 -- Jimmie Johnson's is 210 compared to Allmendinger's 260

Lap 38: Michael McDowell goes to the garage.

Lap 37: Jimmie Johnson takes over 11th by passing Joey Logano.

Lap 36: Jeff Gordon has a 5.918 second lead over second-place Kyle Busch (defending race winner)

Lap 32: AJ Allmendinger's crew chief Mike Shiplett: "How's your water? Still high" Not good news for the No. 43 car - he had a blown engine on Friday.

Lap 30: Aric Almirola is the only car off the track as of right now.

Lap 28: AJ Allmendinger came in for two right side tires and so his team could clean the grill on his car - he went for a wild ride earlier but saved it.

Lap 23: Jeff Gordon is rolling - 2.713 second lead over second place.

Lap 18: Lance McGrew to Dale Jr.: "Lap times are really good there, just try to stay on the bottom"

Lap 18: Sam Hornish Jr. drops two spots to 13th.

Lap 18: Jeff Gordon setting a torrid pace up front - lead is now up to 1.213 seconds over second-place Kurt Busch.

Lap 15: TJ Majors to Earnhardt about Newman who's ahead of him -- "He's working the high groove."

Lap 11: Carl Edwards' spotter as he passes the 77 for 10th -- good job, one at a time

Pit Road speed limit is going to ruin somebody's day...also, keep an eye on turn 4.

Lap 8: Juan Pablo Montoya passes Joey Logano for eighth.

Lap 7: Tony Stewart moves into sixth place. Dale Earnhardt Jr. in front of him about a second ahead.

Lap 5: Jeff Gordon pulls out front, Kurt Busch on his bumper -- and then a small gap to third place Kyle Busch.

RESTART - Lap 5: Jeff Gordon leads at the restart.

CAUTION 1 - Lap 2: Kevin Conway spun coming off Turn 3. Conway manages to keep the car off the wall and has only minor splitter damage. Robby Gordon slowed to avoid the incident and is successful.

Lap 1: Kurt Busch overdrove Turn 3 and Jeff Gordon takes the lead.

Radio chatter: No. 88 crew chief Lance McGrew: "It's Vegas, let's have some fun"

GREEN FLAG! Kurt Busch leads the field at the start of the Shelby American.

Radio chatter before race: TJ Majors tells Dale Earnhardt Jr. to get a good luck at where the entry cone is onto pit road, the entry to the garage and where he will give the 10 pitboxes to go before he reaches the 88 pits. Majors adding how the transition before the the track and apron are tricky.

Lee Spencer says: Keep an eye on the Toyota Racing Development engines today. Marcos Ambrose has had multiple problems this season and Martin Truex Jr. blew up last week at California. All TRD engines were changed out prior to this weekend's activities.

The command to start engines has been given, it's time to go racing!

Jeff Burton is the only driver running at the end of every Sprint Cup Series race here at LVMS (12 races). Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin and Bobby Labonte are the only other drivers to start every race here.

Polesitter Kurt Busch's younger brother, Kyle, is the defending race winner.

Today's race is scheduled for 267 laps (400.5 miles) around the 1.5-mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

AJ Allmendinger is the only driver heading to the rear of the field at the start of the race (Engine change).

2:52 p.m. ET - The prerace introductions are complete, we are minutes away from going racing.
