He and crew chief Jimmy Fennig hung out at the back of the gathering and basically cut up the whole time. Take that as a good sign ... the driver is very relaxed, obviously.
1:07 p.m. ET - Lee Spencer reports that while many of the crew chiefs expect the usual suspects to be good at Kansas today, one recent trend is to mention "the Martins" in the same sentence - as in Martin Truex Jr. and Mark Martin. The Michael Waltrip Racing vice president of competition, Scott Miller, was confident enough in his teams to take a 45-minute break after the drivers meeting and watch a set by the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band.

12:51 p.m. ET - Lee Spencer reports that Phoenix Racing crew chief Nick Harrison says the team is getting to the point where it's finally building a notebook to rely on for Kurt Busch and the driver is gaining more confidence with the team after each race. Harrison says the car is solid and gained momentum from the team's 11th-place finish last week at Texas.
12:46 p.m ET - Lee Spencer says that understandably team owner Chip Ganassi called a team meeting on Saturday. His drivers Jamie McMurray and Juan Pablo Montoya qualified 36th and 39th, respectively, and are 23rd and 18th in the points standings.
12:44 p.m. ET - According to NASCAR Senior Writer Lee Spencer, the overwhelming favorite in the NASCAR Sprint Cup garage area today is Hendrick Motorsports' Jimmie Johnson. The five-time champ could achieve two things with a win today - earning his first victory of the season, and handing team owner Rick Hendrick his 200th Cup win.
