Keselowski does carry the distinction, though, of giving team owner Roger Penske his first career NASCAR crown. Keselowski won the Nationwide title in 2010, a season in which he won six races and earned 29 top-10 finishes, 26 of them top fives, and finished on the lead lap in 34 of the 35 races.

Johnson has raised the bar when it comes to expectations and potential in the series. Year after year, his is the mark that others are chasing. He won his first title in 2006, then remained at the top, winning five consecutive championships. In his career, he's only finished outside the top five in the standings once.

Keselowski has certainly been a breakout star in the last few years. In addition to his now 20 wins in the Nationwide Series, he's been making regular appearances in the Sprint Cup Victory Lanes as well. He has a career-best five Cup wins this season to boost his overall tally in the series to nine.

Johnson started winning pretty much from the moment he stepped into a NASCAR Sprint Cup car. He has only one win in the Nationwide Series, but has earned 60 Sprint Cup victories over the course of his career. Five of those have come this season as he's battled with Keselowski for the title.

Keselowski is a relative newbie in the Sprint Cup ranks. While he drove two races in the series for Rick Hendrick in 2008, and 15 for a variety of teams in 2009 - winning for the first time with team owner James Finch at Talladega - it wasn't until 2010 that he landed in the series full time. He joined with Penske Racing's Cup program and has quickly learned and improved. After finishing 25th in the rankings in 2010, he was fifth last year - and enters the season finale with the points lead this weekend.

Johnson made his full-time debut in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with Hendrick Motorsports in 2002. He was a hit from the start. In his first year, Johnson won three races. Now in his 11th full season, he has never won less than two races in a season.

The 2012 season has clearly been Keselowski's best to date. Keselowski has a career-best five wins this year. He has 23 top-10 finishes, 13 of them top fives, for the year. In 35 races, he has finished on the lead lap 29 times.

Johnson has enjoyed success year after year, but his best run came in 2007 as he defended his first Cup title. That season, Johnson consistently made trips to Victory Lane. He earned 10 wins to pace the field. He earned 24 top-10 finishes, 20 of them top fives, en route to his second Cup title.

This year, he endured some early setbacks but rallied and moved into the Chase for the Sprint Cup field. He has five victories this year, a career mark. Since making the Chase, he's shown an incredible level of consistency, earning a worst finish of 11th in the opening nine races. Can he continue the trend and emerge as champ?

This may not have been Johnson's career-best season, but it's been a good one by anybody's standards. Johnson has five victories this season. He has 24 top-10 finishes, 18 of them top fives, with 27 lead-lap finishes to enter the season finale 20 points behind Brad Keselowski in the title battle.
