NASCAR's Chase for the Sprint Cup field began the championship hunt at Chicagoland Speedway on Monday.

In a race marked by fuel strategy and a dramatic final lap, not everyone fared that well.

How did your favorite do? Let's take a look:

Rob Grabowski-US PRESSWIRE - USA TODAY Sports http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2011/09/19/1_20110919160215267_600_400.JPG http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2011/09/19/1_20110919160215267_107_80.JPG

Started 39th, finished second — For the second consecutive week, Harvick showed that he can rally with the race on the line. His ire was raised early in the race by the nature of pitting next to Kurt Busch. The two jammed one another up on early pit stops before working out a better system to pit side by side. Harvick, like the others, gambled on fuel mileage but his crew chief turned him loose in the final laps. He was tracking down Stewart as the checkered flag waved. Harvick moved from second to first in the standings.

Started 26th, finished first — Moments after complaining about how aggressive some were driving at that point in the race, Stewart made a daring move to the outside to move to second on a restart. He continued that aggression to get to the front, then the fuel conservation needed to stay there to secure his first win of the season. Watch out, Stewart can be dangerous in this stretch of races.

Started fifth, finished fourth — Edwards enjoyed a stellar day, leading 39 laps en route to his top-five finish. That helped him climb to the No. 3 position in the standings. Edwards showed his early-season form, and that he should be a contender throughout the Chase.

Started second, finished sixth — Busch showed the same form he has demonstrated all season. He was fast early in the race and on the start of runs, leading 64 laps. He adjusted his pitting position to make it easier to stop next to fellow Chaser Kevin Harvick late in the race. And then his car fell off late in the race, Busch tore into his pit crew on the radio yet he still managed a top-10 finish.

Started 19th, finished third — During a solid day on the track, Earnhardt Jr. made a huge push in the final 40 laps to continue to gain position. He moved back into the top 10 at that point and then ended the race third, his best finish since he was second at Kansas, 14 races ago.

Started fourth, finished eighth — Newman looked as strong as he has in weeks in making a run toward the front. He led a lap during a pit sequence to gain the bonus point and was generally solid all afternoon with only a few setbacks. His finish moved him into the heart of the Chase battle and his strongest position of the season.

Started sixth, finished fifth — Gambling on strategy, Keselowski took the lead for four laps when he opted to stay on the track when the other leaders pitted. The team knew it was outside its fuel window and, therefore, opted to take the track position. Keselowski took a wavearound on a caution after he stopped to move back onto the lead lap, then took his fuel to the finish for a top opening-Chase race run.

Started 12th, finished 10th — Well, it’s Chase time again. Johnson and his Chad Knaus crew once more showed why they are the five-time defending series champions. Johnson was as strong as he’s been all season, steadily working his way through the field and into the lead. Johnson led 39 laps late in the race before falling into fuel conservation mode and running dry on the final lap.

Started ninth, finished 22nd — Busch was stout for much of the race and moved to the top spot gambling on a two-tire stop, but later lost position in the pits on a midrace stop, forcing him to once more begin working his way through the field. He lost spots in the pits again prior to the restart with 60 laps to go, restarting ninth, and then ran out of fuel on the final lap.

Started first, finished 21st — Kenseth was among the frontrunners most of the day, showing the consistent form that marked his run into the Chase. He ran out of gas on the final lap, though, and was pushed by J.J. Yeley. Such a maneuver isn’t legal on the final lap, so Kenseth was penalized by being moved to the last car on the lead lap.

Started 23rd, finished 24th — Gordon had a strong car but a myriad of problems slowing his progress all day, from tires that wore dramatically to having to get a free pass to get back on the lead lap. Yet there he was, running 11th on the restart with 50 laps to go. His bad luck wasn’t over, though, as he ran out of gas on the final lap.

Started 27th, finished 31st — Hamlin thought he had a vibration in his tire and pitted for a four-tire change on Lap 80. He lost a lap on the stop, then lost a lap under green-flag racing conditions, then had a flat left front with 45 laps to go and had to pit once more for a dismal start to the Chase.
