1

Jimmie Johnson

3 2 1/20
Running a fuel-mileage race stinks, but Johnson did what he needed to do to stay in contention for his sixth NASCAR Sprint Cup championship in seven years. Third in the race and second in points now. Time for Johnson to unleash his Jedi mind tricks?

2

Brad Keselowski

5 1 1/21
It looked like Keselowski was going to win for the third time in five Chase races until he ran out of gas. Now, the pressure is on to see how he and the No. 2 Penske Racing squad respond.

3

Denny Hamlin

5 1 1/12
Somewhat inconsistent in terms of finishes so far in the Chase, Hamlin was second at Charlotte to maintain relevance in the championship hunt.

4

Clint Bowyer

2 1 3/19
A huge victory under the lights put Bowyer nominally back in the title picture. To go all the way will require a couple of more victories in the final five races.

Greg Biffle

2 6 1/12
It was a very, very good weekend for the Biff, who qualified on the pole and finished fourth, his best race of the Chase so far.

Kasey Kahne

2 - 2/22
While eighth place isn’t a bad finish, Kahne was mostly a non-factor at what is supposed to be one of his best tracks and a place he won in May. Disappointing.

Tony Stewart

3 - 1/15
No title this year for the three-time champ, but he put on a whale of a rally from an early collision to finish 13th with a badly damaged car.

8

Martin Truex Jr.

0 5 3/13
He finished a respectable 10th, but that’s not going to get a championship for Truex. Good race, just not good enough.

9

Kyle Busch

1 - 3/17
It’s been a tough season for Busch, who missed the Chase for the second time in five years with Joe Gibbs Racing. But he got a top five on Saturday.

Jeff Gordon

1 8 2/21
A disastrous night for the four-time champion, as a pit-road speeding penalty sent him a lap down, which he never recovered from, finishing 18th.

Kevin Harvick

0 1 1/13
Déjà vu all over again. For the umpteenth time this year, the driver was a lot better than the car he drove.

12

Matt Kenseth

3 4 1/13
So much for winning Talladega last week. Kenseth, the 2011 fall Charlotte race winner, made it all of 11 laps before he suffered a flat tire and from there on out, his night was doomed.

13

Dale Earnhardt Jr.

1 3 1/13
Speaking of Talladega, a concussion from a last-lap crash there has resulted in Earnhardt being parked for at least two weeks.

14

Carl Edwards

0 4 4/19
Here’s a phrase rarely used this season: “Wow, Carl Edwards sure looks racy tonight.” Seventh place for Cousin Carl.

15

Ryan Newman

1 1 6/22
Tough weekend for Newman. After qualifying third, he lost an engine in practice and had to start from the back. He finished 20th.

16

Joey Logano

1 1 8/20
Ninth place was a good run for Logano, albeit third among the three Joe Gibbs Racing Toyotas.

17

Jamie McMurray

0 1 14/20
A top-20 finish for McMurray was his first since Bristol, believe it or not.

18

Paul Menard

0 1 7/20
No reason to smile for Menard, who finished 27th.

19

Regan Smith

0 - 14/19
Although his race was cut short by engine failure, Smith performed admirably filling in for Earnhardt Jr.

20

Marcos Ambrose

1 - 14/21
The Tasmanian driver struggled through a bad night.
