TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) - Ryan Newman was in a scary crash at Talladega with five laps remaining Sunday.

Newman was in the middle of a pack hurtling down the backstretch at the massive 2.66-mile tri-oval when he bumped into teammate Tony Stewart.

Newman's No. 39 Stewart-Haas Chevrolet was then nudged by Marcos Ambrose, and Newman veered inside before flipping into the air and landing on the hood of Kevin Harvick's car. Newman rolled over before coming to a rest upside down on the grass.

He was alert following the accident. Emergency crews had to cut the roof off to extricate him.

The wreck came a few hours after NASCAR officials warned drivers about aggressive driving at the restrictor-plate track.
