The official home improvement warehouse of NASCAR will take out full-page color ads in today's USA Today, and Friday's Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer, Indianapolis Star, Evansville (Ind.) Courier, Syracuse (N.Y.) Post-Standard and Rochester (N.Y.) Democrat & Chronicle with a congratulatory note for Stewart and the #20 Home Depot Racing Team. Customers who present a copy of the coupon from the ad will receive a 10 percent discount on bricks, wall blocks and pavers this Thursday through Sunday (Aug. 11-14).
"First it was ladders and fences, and now it's bricks and pavers," said Stewart, alluding to The Home Depot's previous 10 percent discount on ladders and fences that followed his fence-climbing celebratory antics at Daytona (Fla.) and New Hampshire. "I plan to keep winning races and helping to drive down the cost of home improvement for The Home Depot customers."
Paved with 3.2 million bricks in 1909, the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway is best known as the Brickyard. While its surface is now covered with asphalt, a yard of bricks remains at the start/finish line as a testament to the track's famed history.
Stewart dreamed of racing at the Brickyard ever since he wheeled a go-kart at age 7 in Westport, Ind. When that dream was realized in his debut at the Brickyard as an IRL IndyCar Series rookie in 1996, Stewart expanded that dream into winning at the Brickyard.
The 2002 series champion is well on his way toward a second NASCAR title, as four wins in the past seven races have allowed him to climb from 10th to first in the championship point standings.
