Lasoski Breaks Out with Two West Coast Wins
by TonyStewart.com
As the series moved on to Calistoga Speedway in California for Labor Day weekend action, Lasoski drove to a 16th-place finish in preliminary action on Friday. The next night saw Lasoski and the No. 20 team battle back, as they earned their second A-main victory of the week. Lasoski took the lead on lap 20 of the 25-lap A-main preliminary event to take the checkered flag.
"I knew with the King and Tim Kaeding starting up in front of us, they were going to be pretty hard to beat early because [the track] was abrasive," said Lasoski, who has won three Harvest Classic A-feature titles including the past two in a row. "I've been here before and I know if you abuse your tires early you have nothing for lapped traffic. I just wanted to keep them in sight. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good."
The No. 20 team finished up the week with a 14th- place finish on September 4 to wrap up the "Harvest Classic" event. Lasoski was running second in the third heat race when he ran over debris and cut a tire, which sent him into a violent flip. The team pulled out the backup car and started in the rear of the B-main event to earn a transfer spot into the A-main event finale.
Brandon Wimmer and the No. 7tw Two Winners Racing team also stepped up their A-game last week, as Wimmer earned his first podium finish of the season at Calistoga Speedway. The recent high school graduate drove his Gaerte-Mopar powered machine to a win in the first dash event of the night en route to a second place A-main event finish.
Wimmer kicked off his week with a 16th-place finish at Cottage Grove. Following a second place finish at Calistoga Speedway, Wimmer drove to a 24th-place A-main finish on Saturday and a 20th A-main finish on Sunday to wrap up the weekend.
"The last few races, it's all starting to come together," said Wimmer. "The beginning of the year was tough, but Joe Gaerte is out here helping us with Gaerte Engines, Mopar, Red Line Oil and Hoosier tires. I don't know what to say, it just feels great to be running up front finally."
Lasoski's efforts have put him into the sixth place in World of Outlaws Sprint Series points, while Wimmer is currently ranked 18th in the points chase. Lasoski, Wimmer and the World of Outlaws Sprint Series will return to action on September 8-10 at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif.
