...I wonder if Robbie Loomis made a visit down to the Petty shop this past week because Kyle Petty had an incredible 8th-place run at Dover. Petty has won and run well in the past at the Monster Mile. It was like days of old to see a Petty running up there in the top 10. Not to take anything away from the Petty organization, but that's a pretty good effort on their part. I'm just wondering if Loomis started his job a little early.
...it's obvious that the five Roush cars are still working together. They had some bad luck, but Kurt Busch pulled over and let Mark Martin lead to get five bonus points. They really look out for each other and do things that will not hurt one while helping the whole program.
...it sounded like Kyle Busch and the No. 5 car contributed a lot to Jimmie Johnson's and the No. 48 car's winning run. Maybe that's what the 48 needs. They've been the star of the Hendrick show, and maybe they realized that they've got to have the help of everybody on the team in this Chase. It looks like crew chief Chad Knaus and his guys worked hard with the No. 5 bunch. It showed with their 1st- and 2nd-place finishes.
...Tony Stewart finished 18th. Well, we'll see where that goes.

...Ryan Newman started on the pole which we know he can do and then he struggled. To come back with a top-five finish, he's third in the points, and he's looking pretty good.
...the two guys you've got to keep an eye on all the way to the end even though they haven't won any races are Mark Martin and Rusty Wallace. They're cagey, and they have experience. With the kind of equipment that they have and the kind of drivers that they are, you can bank on them being in the top 10 each week. Wallace is doing a really good job of getting his old car to handle well the entire race, not just for a short haul. He's consistent all day long, and it's really paying off. Of course, we know how tenacious Martin is. He will take whatever his car gives him, and the No. 6 team has been giving him good enough cars to stay up there in the top five. It would be something if Martin and Wallace could get a win or two and really solidify themselves, they'll have as good a chance as anybody at winning the championship.

...I was really disappointed by how Erin Crocker was treated after her run-in on the racetrack with Justin Labonte. I would have preferred to hear someone say, "I messed up a little bit, got into her and spun her out that's what happened rather than acting as if she was doing something wrong. It was early in the race and everybody was trying to get into a rhythm. She qualified well, and I was hoping that she would have a good day. They were being a little hard on her when they were interviewing her and telling her that Labonte said he was being really patient, insinuating that she was holding up everybody. I don't see it that way, and I don't think she or Ray did either. Then to make a big deal about her taking off her steering wheel, it was all negative, and I didn't feel it was justified. I felt sorry for her. She's a young gal, and she has some talent. I'd like to see her get a little more respect. She's certainly getting some respect from me for the way she handled that interview like a professional.
