Yocum's broadcast career began in Orlando, Florida and Bristol, Tennessee at NBC affiliates as sports reporter and anchor before joining TNN in 1995. He spent four years at TNN as a pit reporter and Motorsports Bureau Reporter, covering live NASCAR telecasts such as Winston Cup, Busch Grand National, Trucks, Busch Grand National North, ARCA, and other regional series.
Yocum majored in political science and communications at Florida State University, graduating in 1991. Yocum grew up in the NASCAR arena; his mother continues to own a motorsports management and sponsor services company. During high school and college he worked for the International Race of Champions, where he began as a tire specialist and progressed to racecar preparation and maintenance.
In 1997, Yocum was awarded the Telly Award for Pit Reporting at NASCAR's All-Star race at Charlotte. In 1995 he won 2 Associated Press Sports Feature Awards for NASCAR coverage.
Yocum was born on April 8, 1968.
