Sources: Ganassi, DEI in alliance talks

For those that counted Dale Earnhardt Inc. out for 2009, think again.

An alliance is in the works that would combine the Nos. 1 and 8 Chevrolets at DEI with the Nos. 41 and 42 of Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates next season, multiple sources have told FOXSports.com.

The newly combined outfit would boast a lineup consisting of Martin Truex Jr., with Bass Pro Shops sponsorship, Juan Pablo Montoya, with Wrigleys sponsoroship, and Aric Almirola. Ganassi still has a deal in place with sponsor Target, but it is unknown right now whether that will be for Almirola or for a yet-to-be-determined fourth driver.

Ganassi could offer the presence of an at-track, hands-on owner, an important element that's been missing at DEI since the death of its founder Dale Earnhardt. Ganassi won four titles in Champ Car and two titles as an owner in the IRL IndyCar Series, including this season.

Ganassi's current contract with Dodge extends through 2010. Given the economic climate and uncertainty of the Dodge program beyond 2009, the move would align Ganassi with Chevrolet for next year and beyond.

"We don't have to do anything," said Chip Ganassi Racing president Steve Lauletta when asked about the report. "We're in good shape for next year. We're comfortable. But if we could do something that makes us stronger and more competitive, we'd have to look at it."

This could be the second major union between organizations for DEI in the last year. Under the direction of Max Siegel, president of global operations, DEI merged with Ginn Racing last summer and the company grew from three to four cars. The company weathered the departure of the sport's most popular driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr., at the end of last season and rebounded with the addition of veteran Mark Martin, who has been a mentor to the younger drivers in the stable, including Almirola.

Siegel declined comment on the report.

From a technical alliance with Richard Childress Racing, significant gains have been made on the engine side of DEI under the Earnhardt Childress Racing banner. However, it is not yet clear how this new partnership would affect ECR.

Chip Ganassi entered NASCAR in 2001 when he purchased majority interest in Felix Sabates Racing in 2001. Sabates established his program with a limited run with Kyle Petty in 1989. Sabates expanded to two teams in 1993 and added a third squad four years later.

Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates started 2008 with three cars. But after failing to secure sponsorship for Dario Franchitti and the No. 40 Dodge, they scaled back to two teams after the June race in New Hampshire.

Seeing how Dodge is going to disappear I think Ganassi is just trying to get in an established Chevy team to have decient equipment next year.

I wonder if Theresa still thinks that 51% deal JR wanted would be something that she wishes she had accepted. Everyone knows she should have been more than happy to accept

If Theresa Earnhardt merges
DEI is a disgrace to Nascar for the way it went down with Dale Jr.

fsh8bait,

No one is making fun of Dale...I was a fan of him too. But some of you people take it too far. Bottom, line is he died DRIVING A RACE CAR!!!!!! It is not like he was hit by a drunk driver......

Walter Payton died of liver cancer which was tragic, but it he died or lost use of his limbs because of a helmet to helmet in during a football game, then not so sad because of the level on danger...

Life goes on my friend either with these people or without them. Get over it...some of you doooosh bags cry more of Dale then you would over losing a parent or family member...Get with the program and move on!

What now you can say anything about Teresa because of who she was married to? BS!!!!!

If DEI needs money so bad, why doesn't Max just pimp out Teresa...I am sure at an infield party, people would line up to make a deposit. $20 per load...if you have 20,000 people, that 400k she can make DEI in 1 night (before Max's take since he is her pimp)

And just for the record, you know she has to be doing Max...TE is a mud shark....Big E is spinning in his grave.

I meant to say (that alot of teams are having trouble finding money). 2010 is the year that you will see the movement. Many will be sharing space & some will have certain dates. Most of the sponsors are working together very well.

It is funny how some teams have no trouble finding money and others are getting it thrown at them. There will be alot more movement after next season. Several sponsors contracts are up next year. Some have made it clear to Hindrick, Gibbs, Roush, & Childress that they need change.

OK ,OK, Max lost 2 interested sponsors because he lied to them. Childress has enough sponsors for a 5th. car. He tried to work a deal with them to help DEI. For some reason that did not get past the first meeting. The rumor is that DEI would not give a straight answer about selling the company (all or part) . Childress was a little shocked. He does not want to share his engine shop with anyone else. That deal was a friendship deal..

Now that ladyBi is acting up and lashing out a people I think this is a good time to bring up what that SCUM BAG did about a year ago when she harrassed a guy in a wheelchair and accused him of using his diabaility to get to meet Junior. SHE IS NOTHING BUT TRASH AND WE SHOULD ALL IGNORE HER.
Can you belive even this SCUM BAG would stoop that low ?
