SONOMA, Calif. - David Gilliland plowed into the back of John Andretti's car on pit road before either driver made it out on the track for practice on Saturday morning.

"It was 100 percent my fault," Gilliland said. "I was exiting pit road and looked down for a brief moment to turn on my fan switches and John Andretti stopped in front of me to let some cars go by and I hit him."

Gilliland, who is sporting sponsorship from boss Kevin Buckler's Adobe Road Winery from nearby Petaluma on the No. 71 car, was forced to lease a backup car from Earnhardt Ganassi Racing. The Chevrolet — a backup for Martin Truex Jr. — competed in both road course races last year, earning a 16th at Infineon Raceway and fifth at Watkins Glen International.

Gilliland failed to qualify for Daytona but has competed in every race since California. The team is currently 37th in owner points.

Andretti suffered damage on the rear of the No. 34 car and was in his street clothes before Happy Hour started.
