The Nos. 43 and 44 teams at Richard Petty Motorsports will change crew chiefs and crews following the race at Watkins Glen.

According to team sources, drivers Reed Sorenson and AJ Allmendinger will remain with their respective car numbers and sponsors. However, Mike Shiplett will now oversee the No. 44 Dodge with Allmendinger and Sammy Johns will be the crew chief for Sorenson and the No. 43 squad. The cars and equipment will remain with the crew chiefs.

On Sunday at Pocono, Richard Petty verified that RPM will have four cars until the end of the 2009, but added "we're going to do some changing around" to prepare for next season.

"We've got one car (the No. 9 Dodge driven by Kasey Kahne), hopefully, that's going to be in the Chase and the other three we've got to get squared away and anticipate for next year," Petty said. "There will be some swapping around with different personnel and stuff like that to put in motion this year the opportunity to see how it works in preparation for next year. Then if it doesn't work, we've still got time to make changes for next year."

RPM started the season solid with three of the four cars finishing in the top 10 in the Daytona 500 but hit a slump soon after. With the recent development of the new Dodge engine, the flagship No. 9 Dodge has enjoyed a revival starting with Kahne's win at Sonoma and three additional top 10s in last four races. The organization's veteran, Elliott Sadler, is currently 25th in points and has lately had the benefit of the R6 engine as well.

The move comes at a time when Sorenson and Allmendinger are currently 26th and 27th, respectively in the point standings. Sorenson, who is in his fourth season on the tour, has not posted a top 10 finish since the Daytona 500. Allmendinger finished a career-high third at Daytona along with top 10 finishes at Martinsville and Sonoma in his first full year in the Sprint Cup Series.
