Petty no longer interested in Bowyer

Richard Petty Motorsports has withdrawn its offer to Clint Bowyer to drive a car for the organization in 2012.
Team owner Andrew Murstein confirmed to FOXSports.com on Tuesday that RPM has decided to go in another direction with the program.
"We are no longer in discussions with Clint," Murstein said. "We just feel that RPM is in a great place today, especially how far we have come since last year. Both Marcos (Ambrose) and AJ (Allmendinger) are not only having career years, but they are both moving in the right directions and improving.
"Marcos has won his first Sprint Cup race and followed it up with another win in Nationwide. A.J.'s numbers speak for themselves. Each year, he is just getting better and better. Over the last five years, he has gone from 43rd in the standings to 24th to 19th and to just missing the Chase, as he currently sits in 13th place. He is actually ahead of Clint in the standings."
RPM is one of only seven organizations to win at the Sprint Cup level this season.
Bowyer, 31, finished 22nd at Richmond International Raceway on Saturday after he was collected in a multiple-car wreck on Lap 8. Bowyer, who hasn't won in in 2011, remained 14th in the points standings and missed the Chase for the Sprint Cup for just the third time in his career.
"Clint is a great driver and we wish him the best wherever he ends up," Murstein said. "For now, we will continue to focus on our two teams and continuing to make great strides as we return the King and his unmatched tradition and legion of loyal fans back into Victory Lane."
Bowyer is currently under contract to drive the No. 33 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing. However, he will become a free agent at the end of the year because his representatives and RCR couldn't come to terms on a renewal earlier this year.
Joe Gibbs Racing and Roush Fenway Racing have also shown interest in Bowyer. J.D. Gibbs said at Richmond on Saturday that Bowyer would be a great addition to JGR, but a lack of sponsorship made pursuing the driver a non-issue.
The most recent organization in the Bowyer sweepstakes is Michael Waltrip Racing. Bowyer was seen touring MWR last Thursday. If he were to end up at MWR, expect the company to a run a third team along with current drivers David Reutimann and Martin Truex Jr.
