None other than Danica Patrick. Yes, multiple sources confirmed that the princess of the IndyCar Series wanted to take a tour of the Concord, N.C., shop. Patrick, who is currently in her final year of her contract with Andretti Green Racing, has recently expressed interest in options other than open wheel racing. Patrick was a guest of team owner Tony Stewart last fall at Phoenix. But the two-time Cup champion was not available to be a guide Monday because he was at a Goodyear tire test at Atlanta Motor Speedway. According to sources, Patrick was introduced to Ryan Newman, crew chief Tony Gibson, General Manager Bobby Hutchens and engineer Matt Borland. The tour included stops in the fabrication shop and a look at the seven-post shaker rig. If Patrick chose to switch to stock cars, she could follow the path set by other open wheel converts Juan Pablo Montoya and Sam Hornish Jr. by running several races before going in to full-time competition the following year. With the 2009 IndyCar Series season ending Oct. 10 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Patrick could attempt to qualify for up to six Cup races, beginning Oct. 17 at Lowe's Motor Speedway, or five Nationwide Series events in that span.
