ISC petitions for another kansas race

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. | International Speedway Corp. has formally petitioned NASCAR for a second Sprint Cup race at Kansas Speedway starting next year .
Since NASCAR won't add to its schedule , a second Kansas date would have to come from another ISC-owned track .
International Speedway Corp. tracks with two Cup dates : Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., Daytona International Speedway, Talladega Superspeedway, Martinsville Speedway, Richmond International Raceway, Phoenix International Raceway and Michigan International Speedway.
Harvick feeling good about title run
Points leader Kevin Harvick said he's excited about a championship run.
"This is the best opportunity we've ever had to prepare for a championship because of where we are in the points," he said. "I feel like the ball is in our court. "
Kyle busch apologizes for practice miscue
Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin had to go to backup cars after incidents during Thursday's two practice sessions.
Busch had an incident with David Ragan and Kasey Kahne in the first practice session. Ragan and Kahne also went to backups.
Hamlin was tapped by Busch and collected Tony Stewart, Reed Sorenson and Robert Richardson Jr., forcing Hamlin, Stewart, Sorenson and Richardson to backup cars.
"Kyle just misjudged it by a hair and it causes a wreck," Hamlin said. "I've done it before and most everyone in this garage has done it before."
Said Busch: "I misjudged it, tried to jump back in line a little too fast and hooked (Hamlin). At these speeds and there's not a whole lot of grip here ... I just turned him sideways. I apologized to all the guys. I hate it for them."
reutimann, waltrip agree to deal
Michael Waltrip Racing has an agreement in principle with David Reutimann on a multi-year contract. Reutimann's contract ends after this season.
goodyear testing
Goodyear had a tire test earlier this week at Bristol Motor Speedway and has more testing planned elsewhere.
Greg Stucker, director of Goodyear race tire sales, said the test came after teams saw stress on the right front tire during the spring race.
Stucker said Goodyear is considering a tire similar to that used at bigger tracks because of the high speeds and banking in the corners at Bristol.
Stucker also said Goodyear has a test scheduled Aug. 24-25 at Talladega Superspeedway. Daytona will be repaved after Saturday night's race but the work isn't expected to be done until the end of the year. The compound in the asphalt to be used at Daytona is similar to Talladega, so by testing there , Goodyear can have a tire ready for a January test session at Daytona.
