Abingdon, VA (Sports Network) - Winston Cup driver was fired Monday by Morgan-McClure Motorsports. Skinner has struggled this season, ranking just 40th in the point standings. His best finish was 11th at Darlington in March and he failed to qualify for this past weekend's Sirius 400 at Michigan International Speedway. "We feel it is necessary to perform better for our race team and for our sponsor, Kodak," said team owner Larry McClure in a statement. "We appreciate Mike's efforts in the car, but it is time for a change." Skinner had finished 30th or worse in 10 of the 14 races he had run this year. He also had trouble in qualifying, finishing higher than 20th just twice in 2003. This was Skinner's second year with McClure. He had spent the first five years of his Winston Cup career with Richard Childress Racing and was the Winston Cup Rookie of the Year in 1997 after winning back-to-back Truck Series titles. No replacement has been named, but McClure said he will have a driver for this week's Dodge/SaveMart 350 in California. is available after being released last week by Petty Enterprises.
