Scouting Report

Ross makes the jump to the NBA after playing two seasons for Washington, and it's possible he may do so as a lottery pick. He finished his collegiate career with a flourish, as the leading scorer - with 16.4 points per game - on a Huskies team that won the Pac-12 regular-season title. Although that wasn't enough to get Washington into the NCAA tournament, Ross still saved some of his best basketball for the postseason, averaging 25.0 points in four NIT games during the Huskies' run to Madison Square Garden. He also had an outstanding game in the NCAA tourney as a freshman in 2011, shooting 7 of 10 and scoring 19 points as Washington nearly upset No. 2 seed North Carolina. Ross has the ideal combination of size and athleticism for an NBA shooting guard, which should help him be an effective defender and rebounder in the pros. He averaged 6.4 boards in 2011-12, not to mention 1.3 steals and 0.9 blocks. But the first-team All-Pac-12 performer is first and foremost a prolific scorer, thanks largely to his shooting ability. He shot 45.7 percent from the field and hit 37.1 percent of his 3-pointers last season - attempting 5.5 per game - and got especially hot down the stretch, hitting 23 of 54 (42.6 percent) from beyond the arc in March. Ross could become even more dangerous if he were to rely less on his perimeter game and get to the rim more, but the Oregon native has the physical tools and the confidence to develop into a well-rounded NBA wing player. He should be selected midway through the first round.
