News: Smith has fluid buildup in his left knee that may have contributed to his poor shooting performance in the playoffs, the NY Post reports. Impact: Smith is supposed to get the fluid drained from his knee in the near future and should be fine after that. It is suggested that draining the knee and resting it for a short period of time should relieve any stiffness or swelling. Smith is expected to opt out of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent this summer. He has said he wants to remain a Knick, but it'd be somewhat surprising if Smith isn't able to spin his Sixth Man of the Year Award into a decent long-term contract.(RotoWire, )

News: Smith said he wants to retire as a Knick, ESPN New York reports. Impact: Smith has a $2.9 million player option for next season, but he is likely to opt out and become a free agent. He had an excellent season and won the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year Award as he averaged 18.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.9 three-pointers and 1.3 steals a game. Before the playoffs started, it was largely assumed that Smith was going to cash in big due to his excellent regular season, but he shot only 33.1 percent in the playoffs and may have lost some money as a result. Although he wants to remain a Knick, they may offer him less than they would have before his playoff slump. Regardless of where he lands, he will likely be an excellent scoring option off the bench or as a member of a starting five.(RotoWire, )

News: Smith was ice cold from the field in a Game 6 loss to the Pacers, going 4-for-15 for just 15 points in 35 minutes of action. He added 10 rebounds and 3 assists. Impact: Smith has seen his scoring efficiency drop in the postseason. He shot 42 percent from the field during the regular season, but just 33 percent in the playoffs. It was unfortunate that he was not able to find his stroke, as the Knicks needed someone other than Carmelo Anthony to step up in the scoring department.(RotoWire, )

News: Smith (illness) scored just 13 points on 4-for-11 from the field in Thursday's Game 5 win against the Pacers. He added six rebounds, two assists, three steals, and one block. Impact: While Smith has not missed a game in the series due to his illness, it is evident that he is being affected by it. He has yet to have a game shooting better than 37 percent from the field and has failed to reach 20 points in a single game so far. He will need to find his rhythm if the Knicks hope to advance.(RotoWire, )

News: Smith (illness) will suit up for Tuesday's Game 4 at Indiana, New York Newsday reports. Impact: After a few days of will he or won't he, Smith is active Tuesday following a groggy past four days. He was largely ineffective in his 25 minutes Saturday, recording just nine points and one board in 25 minutes. However, better health should allow him to provide his typical scoring punch off the bench, as the Knicks look to avoid going down 3-1 in the series.(RotoWire, )

News: Smith (illness) participated in morning shootaround and appears poised to play in Tuesday's Game 4 at Indiana, the New York Times reports. Impact: After logging a groggy 25 minutes Saturday, Smith missed practice the past two days as he dealt with the flu. His presence at shootaround is a great sign for his availability Tuesday, and with Iman Shumpert's (knee) status in doubt, Smith will likely be counted on to provide a punch, and potentially even start, at small forward.(RotoWire, )

News: Kenyon Martin and Smith, who missed practice Sunday and Monday because of illness, are expected to play in Game 4 of the Knicks' Eastern Conference semifinal against the Pacers on Tuesday night. Impact: New York trails the Pacers 2-1.(STATS, 11:52am)

News: Smith missed practice for a second day in a row Monday due to his current bout with the flu, the New York Post reports. Impact: Not only is the illness hindering Smith, but the frontcourt has also been affected, as Kenyon Martin has caught the bug. Smith actually took the court in Saturday's Game 3 but managed just nine points (4-12 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 1-2 FT) and one rebound in 25 minutes. The NBA's Sixth Man of the Year hasn't been himself of late anyway, with the illness further minimizing his potential impact as the Knicks progress through the playoffs. Consider Smith questionable to suit up for Tuesday's Game 4, despite his insistence that he'll play.(RotoWire, )

News: Smith (illness) intends to take the court for Tuesday's Game 4 at Indiana, the New York Post reports. Impact: Following a 102-degree fever Saturday morning, Smith was quite sluggish in his 25 minutes, extending his cold streak from the field. In his past five playoff tilts, he has knocked down just 27.5 percent from the floor, including 7-for-27 from beyond the arc. While he missed Sunday's practice, the Sixth Man of the Year will have to turn it around, and quickly, for New York to have any chance of keeping their playoff hopes alive.(RotoWire, )

News: Smith (illness) was able to play in Game 3 against the Pacers, but went cold from the field with just nine points on 4-for-12 shooting. Impact: Smith has been playing noticeably worse in the postseason, with his scoring average at just 14.2 points compared to his regular season average of 18.1. Saturday's performance may be attributed to his illness, but he has failed to shoot over 39 percent in each of his last five games.(RotoWire, )

News: Smith (illness) will be active to play Saturday in Game 3 against the Pacers. Impact: Smith had been unavailable for shootaround, but appears to be able to play. While we don't expect him to be limited in terms of minutes, he could struggle a little early on, given his condition.(RotoWire, )

News: Smith played against the Pacers in Game 3 on Saturday night after being iffy to go because of an illness. Impact: Smith, the NBA's top sixth man, entered the game late in the first quarter and missed his first two shots -- both came up short. Coach Mike Woodson said during his pregame availability that Smith would warm up before a decision would be made. Smith missed the Knicks morning shootaround after spiking a 102-degree fever, but Woodson said the temperature came down throughout the day.(STATS, 11:10am)

News: Smith missed morning shootaround due to an illness and is questionable to take the court for Saturday's Game 3 at Indiana, ESPN New York reports. Impact: Smith has not shot the ball well in the Knicks' second-round series against the Pacers, connecting on just 7-of-30 field goals and 3-for-13 from three-point range. Consequently, his scoring output has fallen from 18.1 points per game in the regular season to 12.5 points versus Indiana. If he sits out, Pablo Prigioni and Iman Shumpert should pick up the slack in the Knicks' backcourt.(RotoWire, )

News: New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith has been fined $5,000 by the NBA for a flop during Game 1 of their playoff series against Indiana. The NBA instituted a system of penalties for flopping this season. The Sixth Man of the Year on Friday became the third player to be fined during the postseason, following Indiana's Jeff Pendergraph and Oklahoma City's Derek Fisher. Impact: Smith was defending Pacers guard Lance Stephenson when he ran into a pick set by David West. Smith fell to the court and threw his arms up, exaggerating the contact and fooling the referee into believing it was much more severe than it really was.(STATS, 12:55pm)
