The first lesson from the NBA’s opening week: Breathe.

The small sample of Week 1 games are only slightly telling, so don’t expect any knee-jerk reactions here. Without too much overreaction, here’s how the NBA currently stands before things really begin to shake out.

Right now, the Pacers would knock off the Heat in a seven-game series. Indiana is the NBA's last remaining undefeated team and Paul George looks like an MVP, averaging 27 points, 8.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.

The Heat weren’t going 82-0. And after stomping the Bulls in the season opener, the Heat flopped with losses at Philadelphia and Brooklyn. If this happened in January no one would blink. So don’t bat an eye.

No one expected the Clippers to fall to their big brother on opening night, but the Lakers loss didn’t seem to hurt confidence. Wins against the Rockets and Warriors have them in the West’s driver seat for now.

They’re as good as advertised — so far. There’s no doubt James Harden is a top 10 superstar, but he could be better. The Rockets are scoring easy buckets at the rim thanks to Dwight Howard, who is already proving worth the hype.

Stephen Curry is launching up to nine 3-pointers a game, even more than last postseason. Sprinkle in Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala and David Lee, and this Warriors offense is relentless. They’re blowing teams out.

The T-wolves have opened the season looking like a 50-win squad. Obviously a healthy combination of Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio can do that, but it’s the duo of Corey Brewer and Kevin Martin that has helped spark the transition game.

Derrick Rose doesn't suddenly suck. There’s a thick layer of rust on his ordinarily refined game after a sabbatical that lasted a year and a half. Early losses are a result of his poor play, but don’t expect it to last much longer.

Brook Lopez is Brooklyn's MVP — at least until Deron Williams shakes off his early shooting woes. Meanwhile, Paul Pierce is playing at his near-elite level and Kevin Garnett is, well, yelling at people in that harshly motivating way.

The Grizzlies are usually the top ramen of the NBA. They're nothing fancy, but they get the job done. However, this Grizzlies team isn't defending, and that’s like ramen without even a flavor packet — just a bunch of watered-down noodles.

Monta Ellis has all of Texas right now, and through the first week he looks like a proper offensive star alongside Dirk Nowitzki. If it lasts, Dallas could be one of the bottom playoff teams in the West. Ellis might surprise people this season.

Count on that fresh, talented nucleus in Orlando to sparkle on certain nights and look lost on other nights. The young core looks promising, but don’t forget last season’s 20-win Magic won two of its first four games too.
