Scouting the Mavericks
Last season, they went 0-4 at home before breaking through and eventually finishing 32-9. "They're aware of that," coach Rick Carlisle said of his team's 0-1 start this year. "We don't want to revisit our start last year. But there are no guarantees." ... Carlisle on the Mavs' .409 shooting through three games: "Every season has 9,000 or 10,000 offensive possessions, so you can't overreact to the first 300." ... Erick Dampier responded to Drew Gooden's absence with 12 points and 10 rebounds Saturday, playing 35 minutes. The Mavericks' record when Dampier reaches double figures in scoring is 67-18.
