Sixers Notes: For a spell, dynamic duo was effective
by The Philadelphia Inquirer
That's not to say we'll be seeing much more of it.
Before last night's game against the New Jersey Nets at the Izod Center, Sixers coach Eddie Jordan said he knows he likes Holiday with reserve Willie Green , but he doesn't remember the Holiday-Williams combo.
"I thought Jrue was really good," Jordan said of his rookie, who scored eight points in the second quarter.
Entering last night's game against the winless Nets, Jordan had yet to play Holiday in a road game.
"Is that right?" Jordan said. "There's a certain comfort level for me to get the vets out there . . . and his time will come."
Holiday played 4 minutes, 15 seconds last night.
Before the game, Williams said he was comfortable playing alongside Holiday.
"It was OK, actually, because we were running an open set - screen and rolls, spread the floor," said Williams, who added that Holiday definitely has "earned" more playing time.
Does Holiday think he earned more time?
"I hope so," he said. "It just felt good to be out there. I've always stayed positive, but that did boost me, especially because the crowd was so into it."
Veterans Day inspiration Before last night's game, Jordan said he was watching ESPN. In honor of Veterans Day, coaches Mike Krzyzewski , Bill Parcells , and Bobby Knight - all with ties to Army - were sharing stories of their time at the military academy.
From the program, he took away a point he shared with his team.
"They were always concentrating on teamwork," Jordan said of those teams. "And not necessarily motivation, but preparation and teamwork. Not individual play, but preparation, and not motivation, but teamwork."
Out, out, out The Nets began the game with only one regular starter: center Brook Lopez . New Jersey had only eight players in uniform; they were missing all-star point guard Devin Harris , and fellow starters Chris Douglas-Roberts , Yi Jianlian , and Courtney Lee .
