Nuggets coach George Karl not only got a Tar Heel in the NBA draft Thursday night, he got a Nuggets fan.

Ty Lawson, the newest Nugget , had eyes for the team long before it had eyes for him. "I'm a Carmelo (Anthony) fan, a big fan of his,"

Lawson said Thursday.

He predicted the Nuggets would go all the way to the NBA Finals.

"When they made it to the playoffs, I knew they were going to make it big," the former North Carolina star said.

Rockies prospects on rise

Double-A pitcher Jhoulys Chacin and Triple-A second baseman Eric Young Jr. have been recognized for their strong seasons with a signinifcant honor. Both have been selected to participate in the Futures Game for top prospects held in conjunction with the All-Star Game in St. Louis.

Young will play on the U.S. team for manager Ozzie Smith, while Chacin will be a member of the World team led by Jose Oquendo.

They are in good company. The July 12 game will begin at noon MDT and can be watched live on ESPN2, ESPN2 HD and MLB.TV.
