Payton, who recently exercised a $5.4 million option to stay with the Lakers, averaged 14.6 points and 5.5 assists in his only season in Los Angeles. The nine-time All-Star started all 82 regular season games. Known as "The Glove" for his tenacious defense, Payton took a huge pay cut to join the Lakers last summer with the hopes of capturing the first NBA title of his career. However, Los Angeles was ousted in five games by the Detroit Pistons in the Finals. In the championship round, Payton averaged only 4.2 points per game, as he made just 9-of-28 shots from the floor. In 14 NBA seasons with Seattle, Milwaukee and the Lakers, Payton has averaged 18.0 points and 7.2 assists per contest. Payton was selected by the SuperSonics with the second overall pick of the 1990 NBA Draft. He spent 12-plus seasons in Seattle before being traded by the Sonics, along with Desmond Mason, to the Milwaukee Bucks for Ray Allen, Kevin Ollie, Ronald Murray and a draft pick in February of 2003. Fox returns to the Celtics, who selected him in the first round (24th pick overall) of the 1991 NBA Draft. He signed as a free agent with the Lakers prior to the 1997-98 seasons and had played in LA since. The 6'7", 235-pounder has averaged 9.6 points and 3.8 rebounds in 930 NBA games. Atkins, 5'11", 160 pounds, averaged 8.4 points and 3.5 assists in 64 games last season with Detroit and Boston. He entered the league in 1999 as a free agent with Orlando. In 371 games, Atkins has averaged 10.0 points and 3.5 assists. Atkins was acquired by the Celtics from Detroit, along with Lindsey Hunter, a first-round draft choice and cash in exchange for Mike James from the Pistons and Chris Mills from Atlanta in a three-team deal in February. Mihm was chosen by the Chicago Bulls in first round (seventh overall pick) of the 2000 NBA Draft, but his rights were traded to Cleveland for the rights to Jamal Crawford and cash. He played three-plus seasons for the Cavaliers before Cleveland sent him, guard Ricky Davis, forward Michael Stewart, and a second-round draft pick to the Celtics in exchange for swingman Eric Williams, center Tony Battie, and forward Kedrick Brown in December. Last season, the 7"0', 265-pounder averaged 6.3 points and 5.4 boards in 76 games for Boston and Cleveland. In 261 games, Mihm has averaged 6.9 points and 5.0 rebounds. Banks, 6'2", 200 pounds, averaged 5.9 points and 2.2 assists in his first season in the league. He played in 81 regular season games for Boston, which acquired him in a 2003 draft night trade with Memphis along with the draft rights to Kendrick Perkins, in exchange for the draft rights to Troy Bell and Dahntay Jones.
