Nets' Williams bound for Turkey

NEWARK, N.J.
New Jersey Nets point guard Deron Williams has left for Turkey to prepare for his potential stint with Besiktas during the NBA lockout, ProBasketballTalk.com reported Friday.

Williams, recovering from wrist surgery, signed to play for the Turkish basketball club earlier this summer.
A free agent after the next NBA season, Williams told The Salt Lake Tribune, "I'm excited. I think it'll be exciting to go over there and play basketball, for one, while everybody else isn't. It'll just be an exciting time for my family. See a new culture."
Williams dismissed concerns about the playing conditions in Turkey, and those who question his going there.
"I'm just sick of hearing about why am I going to Turkey?" Williams said. "Or when am I going, or when am I coming back? So hopefully when I get over there I won't hear those questions anymore, because it's every day."
Williams admitted his wrist is not fully recovered.
"I wouldn't say 100 percent. I've still got to do some strengthening and breaking up scar tissue," he said. "I think that's a process with any surgery."
Williams was traded to the Nets by the Utah Jazz at last season's deadline. It is unknown if he is willing to move with the Nets to Brooklyn when his contract expires.
