McDyess finally plays; Knicks still lose

New York, NY (Sports Network) - made his long-awaited debut for New York, collecting just two points in 13 minutes as the lost 79-78 to the Detroit in overtime at Madison Square Garden. McDyess was 0-for-5 from the floor, and 2-for-4 from the foul line. He finished with three rebounds and one assist.

The power forward was acquired by the from Denver in a draft-day trade in June of 2002. However, he missed all of last season with a left knee injury he sustained in the preseason and has been sidelined ever since.

The original injury to McDyess' knee was suffered during training camp with the in 2001. He was sidelined all but 10 games of the 2001-02 season.

McDyess has had three left knee surgeries in the last 19 months.

Meanwhile, the team placed rookie Michael Sweetney on the injured list to make room for McDyess.
