NBA cancels summer league

The NBA has canceled its annual Las Vegas Summer League, the New York Daily News reported Wednesday, an apparent signal that the league is bracing for a lockout.

Visit Heat or 3peat CentralAccording to the report, the NBA also nixed its summer internship program, in which about 30 college students are usually hired for 10 weeks to work in the league office in New York and at the entertainment division in Secaucus, N.J.
The summer league was supposed to begin July 9 in Las Vegas. The 10-day event is mainly a chance for rookies to showcase their skills following the NBA Draft, which is slated for June 23 in Newark, N.J.
In other signs of an impending lockout, the NBA is not scheduling any preseason games overseas for next season, and not sending any teams abroad for training camps, according to the Daily News.
The NBA's collective bargaining agreement expires June 30, and most analysts expect a lengthy lockout that will last through at least part of next season.
