Report: Dedes arrested on DWI charge

Spero Dedes, who agreed two weeks ago to jump ship from the Los Angeles Lakers to become the radio voice of the New York Knicks, was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated in the Hamptons over the weekend, the New York Post reported Wednesday.

Dedes' lawyer, Colin Astarita, told the Post on Tuesday he believes the charges will be "completely dismissed," saying, "The early stages from the police paperwork show inconsistencies with the police allegations and what actually transpired that night."
Dedes was stopped by Southampton, N.Y., police at 4:12 a.m. ET Sunday for speeding, according to the arrest report, while driving a 2006 BMW. The 32-year-old former New Jersey Nets broadcaster was then charged with DWI.
He posted $500 bail Sunday, and a hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
Astarita would not comment on Dedes' relationship with the Knicks. The up-and-coming Dedes is slated to replace veteran Mike Crispino in the radio booth and also fill in for television play-by-play man Mike Breen on the MSG Network.
It is unclear whether the arrest will affect Dedes' status. The Knicks have yet to announce the hiring and three Madison Square Garden officials did not return phone calls on the matter.
The New Jersey native, a graduate of New York City's Fordham University, also works for CBS Sports, calling NFL games and college basketball.
