San Antonio Spurs Getting Inside

Around and around they go, where Gregg Popovich's rotation will go is anybody's guess.

The San Antonio Spurs' coach appears set with a starting lineup of Tony Parker and Keith Bogans in the backcourt and Richard Jefferson, Tim Duncan and Antonio McDyess up front. Manu Ginobili is the sixth man.

Beyond that is anyone's guess. Popovich is trying to figure it out. Through Friday's win over Charlotte, the second in a row for the Spurs to move to 11-9, some players aren't sure if they're coming or going.

Guard Roger Mason has been disappointed with his limited minutes of late, even with Michael Finley out with a sprained ankle. Against the Bobcats he played just 7:16, making his only shot of the game. Rookie forward DeJuan Blair played just 3:25.

Popovich was asked if his team is still feeling its way around.

"Of course we are, we just started the season, we've got a lot of new guys and it's going to take a while to get everybody totally familiar with everybody else," Popovich said. "That's an ongoing process for every team, maybe a little bit more so for us this year."

When healthy, the Spurs are deep. They are as healthy as they've been now and Popovich is experimenting with different players and lineups. Would he have liked to have something more concrete by now? Probably. Will the rotation twist and turn ever more? Assuredly.

"There's nothing in stone for sure," Popovich said.

SPURS 104, BOBCATS 85: San Antonio got solid scoring from its major players, something it hasn't always had this season. Manu Ginobili led the Spurs with 22 points. Tim Duncan and Richard Jefferson each scored 17 and Tony Parker, thanks to others stepping up their scoring, needed only nine points while moving the ball around for 10 assists. George Hill added 12 points. That being said, Gerald Wallace led a Charlotte push that saw the Spurs' 22-point lead whittled to 72-71 after three quarters. But the Spurs dominated the action in the fourth quarter, outscoring Charlotte 32-14.
