News: Nowitzki had 21 points (7-14 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 4-5 FT) and seven rebounds in 35 minutes Wednesday as Dallas lost to Golden State.
Impact: Nowitzki is what he is at this point in his career, but with the rejuvenated Monta Ellis in the backcourt, Nowitzki hasn't had to shoulder the entire scoring load. The addition should pay off as the season progresses, so long as Ellis can keep up his well-behaved start.
News: Ellis scored 21 points (8-20, 0-1 3Pt, 5-6 FT) to go along with five assists in 36 minutes against Golden State on Wednesday.
Impact: It wasn't his best night of the year, but it was the fourth time he cracked 20 points in his last five. Efficiency-wise, he's on the path for a career year. Although there are plenty of skeptics still out there, you have to credit Ellis' effort Wednesday for not turning the ball over and keep his ill-advised shots to a minimum.
Ricky Ledo - #7 - Shooting Guard - 6'7" - 200lbs
News: Ledo will likely start Friday's D-League contest versus Rio Grande Valley, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Impact: Given teammate Chris Douglas-Roberts' call-up to the Bobcats on Wednesday, Ledo will move into the starting lineup and likely see increased minutes. The rookie did not play college basketball after being ruled ineligible, but he was a top high school prospect with a reputation as a big-time scorer. Ledo has struggled a bit in five D-League games, however, averaging 13.8 points on 40.6 percent shooting in 23.7 minutes per game.
Devin Harris - #20 - Guard - 6'3" - 185lbs
News: Harris (toe) had hoped to return before Christmas but experienced pain and inflammation in his toe following a recent practice, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Harris underwent surgery to repair a toe injury and has yet to play this season. He hopes to return before the New Year but it looks like he remains at least two more weeks away.
Brandan Wright - #34 - Forward-Center - 6'10" - 240lbs
News: Wright (shoulder) won't be ready to return to action Wednesday, the Mavs' official site reports.
Impact: Wright is close to returning, but it won't be until later in the week at the earliest. He's someone to keep on watch lists, but significant minutes aren't a guarantee.
News: Nowitzki scored 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting Monday He added a team-high seven assists to go along with six rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.
Impact: Nowitzki's impressive night couldn't carry Dallas to a win as they were routed by the Kings. The team will look to bounce back Wednesday against Golden State.
News: Marion scored eight points Monday in a loss to the Kings. He grabbed three rebounds and committed one turnover.
Impact: Marion has failed to score in double-figures in four of Dallas' last five outings. He is shooting 38 percent from the field over that stretch.
News: Ellis scored 21 points on 9-of-18 shooting Monday. He added five assists in the loss to the Kings.
Impact: Ellis and teammate Dirk Nowitzki were the only effective offensive weapons for Dallas as Sacramento won in impressive fashion.
News: Dalembert scored three points Monday in 12 minutes off the bench. He grabbed six rebounds but was largely ineffective against Sacramento's DeMarcus Cousins.
Impact: Dalembert and starter DeJuan Blair were both over-matched by Cousins, limiting their time on the court.
News: Carter scored seven points on 3-of-11 shooting Monday, including 0-of-4 from behind the arc. He did manage three steals and one assist in the loss.
Impact: Carter's shooting woes continue to be a problem. He is shooting a career-worst 37 percent from the field, including 33 percent from long-distance.
News: Calderon scored 11 points (4-10 FG, 3-7 3PT) in a blowout loss to the Kings on Monday. He added two assists and two rebounds.
Impact: Calderon played just 22 minutes as Dallas fell behind big in the third quarter, forcing coach Rick Carlisle to bench his starters for a large portion of the final frame.
News: Blair started Monday but was outworked by DeMarcus Cousins, playing just 14 total minutes. He finished with four points, two rebounds, two turnovers, and four fouls.
Impact: Blair's ineffectiveness and foul trouble earned him a seat on the bench for a majority of the game. He will have a chance to rebound Wednesday against the Warriors.
News: Ellis scored 22 points Saturday, including the game-winner at the buzzer in a win over Portland. He added four assists and one rebound.
Impact: Ellis played a team-high 39 minutes and appears to have moved passed his sore back and ankle.
News: Carter scored eight points Saturday on 4-of-13 shooting. He added four rebounds, four assists, and four turnovers in the win over Portland.
Impact: Carter has struggled with his shot all season, shooting 40 percent or lower in 15 of Dallas' 20 games.
News: Calderon scored 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting Saturday in a win over Portland. He added seven assists and two steals.
Impact: Calderon opted to attack the basket Saturday instead of taking his usual outside shots. He missed his lone three-point attempt, failing to score a three-pointer for the first time in 18 games.
Sun. Dec 8, 2013 | STATS
News: Nowitzki had 28 points in Saturday's 108-106 win at Portland.
Impact: Nowitzki has now scored at least 20 in a season-high four straight games, a stretch during which he's averaging 24.3.
Sat. Dec 7, 2013 | RotoWire
News: Blair finished with 15 points (6-9 FG, 3-4 FT) and eight rebounds in Saturday's win over the Blazers.
Impact: For the second straight game, Blair was in the Mavericks' starting lineup over veteran teammate Samuel Dalembert. If the fifth-year pro can string performances like this together, he might just stay in his current role. Blair is shooting 53.6 percent from the field and could become a solid source of rebounds in fantasy leagues.
Sat. Dec 7, 2013 | RotoWire
News: Nowitzki put up 28 points (12-22 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 1-1 FT) with seven assists and six rebounds in Saturday's win over the Blazers.
Impact: Even at age 35, Nowitzki appears to be far from done. The 11-time All-Star is currently averaging 21.2 points and 5.9 boards, while shooting 43 percent from downtown and 93 percent from the charity stripe. In his 16th season, Nowitzki is still a top-level performer.
Brandan Wright - #34 - Forward-Center - 6'10" - 240lbs
Fri. Dec 6, 2013 | RotoWire
News: Wright (shoulder) returned to practice Friday and has an "outside chance" to play Monday or Wednesday, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Wright has been ruled out for Friday but has a small chance to return before the end of the Mavs' current road trip. Fantasy owners shouldn't bank on it, as a mid-December return still seems more likely. Wright has yet to play this season, after suffering a non-displaced shoulder fracture in October.
Thu. Dec 5, 2013 | RotoWire
News: Coming off the bench for the second time this season, Dalembert scored six points (3-6 FG) and grabbed seven rebounds in 19 minutes against New Orleans on Wednesday.
Impact: Dalembert wasn't flashy like usual but did a better job on the glass than DeJuan Blair, who started in place of the veteran center. Although he's limited offensively, Dalembert is still a quality defensive player and will be back in the starting lineup soon.
News: Blair scored 12 points (6-10 FG, 0-3 FT) and grabbed four rebounds in 29 minutes against New Orleans on Wednesday.
Impact: It was the second start of the season for Blair, who had a surprisingly tough time on the glass against the Anthony Davis-less Pelicans. He didn't do much else, either, but should be considered a solid role player for Dallas. Samuel Dalembert probably gives them just a little more, though, and should be back in the starting lineup soon.
News: Blair will make his second start of the season Wednesday against the Pelicans.
Impact: With the Pelicans starting Jason Smith at center given Anthony Davis' (hand) injury, it appears Rick Carlisle will counter with Blair instead of the usual Samuel Dalembert. Blair's production has been inconsistent this season, but he's grabbed at least seven rebounds in each of his last seven games, including an 18-rebound performance Friday versus Atlanta.
News: Calderon (ankle) is in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pelicans.
Impact: Initially listed as a game-time decision, it looks like Calderon will give it a go as the starter. His minutes could be monitored, however, as he reportedly tweaked his injured ankle toward the end of Tuesday's game.
News: Calderon (ankle) is a game-time decision for Wednesday's game at New Orleans.
Impact: After sitting out Saturday's loss to the T'Wolves, Calderon returned to the lineup Tuesday and scored 12 points in 33 minutes. However, he appeared to tweak the injury toward the end of the game and it's possible the team could sit him on the second game of a back-to-back. Should he sit, Gal Mekel will likely get the start at point guard, as was the case Saturday.
News: Calderon (ankle) limped off the court after Tuesday's win over the Bobcats and his status is uncertain for Wednesday's contest against the Pelicans, ESPN Dallas reports.
Impact: Calderon returned on Tuesday after missing a game due to a bruised right ankle, and played a solid 33 minutes. The Mavs may decide to play it safe and rest him since they are playing in a back-to-back set. If that happens, look for Gal Mekel to fill in for Calderon.
News: Marion scored eight points on 4-of-10 shooting Tuesday, but did manage to grab 10 rebounds. He added one steal and an assist in the win over Charlotte.
Impact: Marion continues to rebound the ball well and is averaging 8.2 rebounds in Dallas' last five outings.
Ricky Ledo - #7 - Shooting Guard - 6'7" - 200lbs
News: Ledo has appeared in two games with the Texas Legends since being assigned to the Dallas D-League affiliate. He is averaging 16.0 points but shooting just 38 percent from the field.
Impact: Ledo was productive in his first game, connecting on 6-of-11 shots. Unfortunately he struggled Monday, finishing 6-of-20 from the field.
Shane Larkin - #3 - Point Guard - 5'11" - 176lbs
News: Larkin played just nine minutes Tuesday in a win over Charlotte. He finished 0-of-4 from the field and tallied just one rebound.
Impact: Larkin is averaging 12.2 minutes a game since coming back from offseason surgery to repair a broken ankle. He has upside but remains behind talented veterans on the Dallas depth chart.
Bernard James - #5 - Forward-Center - 6'10" - 230lbs
News: James saw his first action in four games, playing 10 minutes Tuesday in a win over the Bobcats. He finished with five points and four rebounds.
Impact: James was called into duty after Sam Dalembert and DeJuan Blair got into early foul trouble.
Wayne Ellington - #21 - Shooting Guard - 6'4" - 200lbs
News: Ellington did not get into Tuesday's win over the Bobcats. He was a DNP-CD.
Impact: Ellington has seen spot minutes here and there but was bumped down the depth chart with the return of Jose Calderon.
Jae Crowder - #9 - Forward - 6'6" - 235lbs
News: Crowder scored three points Tuesday in a win over the Bobcats. He added one rebound and an assist.
Impact: Crowder is seeing regular minutes but has yet to put up fantasy friendly numbers. He's scored in double-digits just once in the past five games.
News: Carter struggled again Tuesday, scoring 10 points on 3-of-8 from the field. He also went 2-of-4 from the free-throw line in the win over Charlotte.
Impact: Carter did manage to pull down a season-high seven rebounds but it may be worth keeping Vinsanity on the bench until his shooting problems straighten out.
Wed. Dec 4, 2013 | STATS
News: Nowitzki recovered from a rough start to score 25 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter, and the Mavericks kept the Charlotte Bobcats winless in Dallas with an 89-82 victory Tuesday night.
Impact: Nowitzki, who was 1 of 10 from the field in the first half, and Monta Ellis took over late after struggling most of the game. They scored the last 19 points to help the Mavericks outscore Charlotte 29-15 in the fourth. Nowitzki finished 10 of 21 from the floor and is 20 for 34 (58.8 percent)in the past two games. He's scored a combined 48 points in that stretch
News: Dalembert scored two points (0-3 FG, 2-2 FT) and added six rebounds in 17 minutes Tuesday.
Impact: Dalembert has been an extremely inconsistent scorer this season but does provide some value in terms of rebounding. However, if he continues to see limited minutes like he did Tuesday, he should not be considered a valuable fantasy asset.
News: Blair scored two points (1-4 FG) to go with seven rebounds and three assists in 21 minutes Tuesday.
Impact: Despite seeing his season average in minutes, Blair's two points Tuesday after an 11 point performance Saturday goes to show his inconsistency throughout this season. However, he does average close to eight rebounds per game, which does provide some value when his scoring isn't there.
News: Calderon (ankle) scored 12 points (4-10 FG, 4-5 3Pt) to go with one rebound, one assist and one block in 33 minutes Tuesday.
Impact: After sitting out Saturday against the Timberwolves, Calderon returned and contributed his usual three-point production. However, his one assist was a season-low. Since he played near his season average in minutes Tuesday, it appears that his ankle injury is something he can play through. Fantasy owners should continue to use him in the future as a good source of three-pointers and assists when he's healthy.
News: Ellis scored 22 points (8-18 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 6-6 FT) to go with five rebounds and five assists in 38 minutes Tuesday.
Impact: Ellis appears to be back on track after playing through a sore back and ankle Nov. 27 against the Warriors. Continue to roll with Ellis as usual.
News: Nowitzki scored 25 points (10-21 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 3-3 FT) to go with three rebounds, one assist and one block in Tuesday's win over the Bobcats.
Impact: Nowitzki was 1 of 10 from the field through the first two quarters, but he was able to pull it together in the second half to produce numbers similar to his standards. As long as Nowitzki is healthy, he should continue to be utilized.
News: Calderon (ankle) will start for the Mavs on Tuesday, the team's official site reports.
Impact: His owners should deploy him as they usually would, and he should be a solid source of assists, three-pointers and shooting percentages as long as he's starting.
News: Calderon (ankle) is active for Tuesday's game against the Bobcats, but isn't a lock to play, the Charlotte Observer reports.
Impact: This is generally good news, but significant run is not assured for Calderon in Tuesday's tilt.
Devin Harris - #20 - Guard - 6'3" - 185lbs
News: Harris (toe) said he's still hoping to play in his first game of the season before Christmas, the Star-Telegram reports.
Impact: The hopes of a player on matters like this don't really carry much weight in terms of nailing down a return date, especially since the last report regarding his return to the court stated that a late-November return was a possibility. Don't look for Harris to have a ton of fantasy value, especially with Monta Ellis dominating the ball in the Mavs' backcourt.
News: Calderon (ankle) endured morning shootaround but remains a game-time call for Tuesday's contest against the Bobcats, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Impact: Emerging from shootaround without a limp, Calderon seems poised to miss just one game due to a bone bruise in his right ankle. If he does make a return, he'll push Gal Mekel back to a reserve role.
Mon. Dec 2, 2013 | RotoWire
News: Calderon (ankle) will be a game-time decision for Tuesday's tilt against the Bobcats.
Impact: Calderon was forced to miss Saturday's game against the Timberwolves due to a bone bruise that he sustained in Friday's contest against the Hawks. Expect Gal Mekel to start in his place once again if he is unable to play.
Gal Mekel - #33 - Guard - 6'3" - 202lbs
News: Mekel started at point guard in place of Jose Calderon (ankle) on Saturday. He put up six points, two rebounds and seven assists in 26 minutes.
Impact: Mekel could have some decent value in deep leagues if he continues to start any of the games that Calderon misses in the short term.
News: Nowitzki scored 23 points in a 112-106 loss to the Wolves on Saturday night.
Impact: Nowitzki is only averaging 20.6 points. That's a nice number but rather pedestrian for one of the legends of the game. Of course, he is 35 years old so that's the biggest factor here.
News: Ellis scored 26 points in a 112-106 loss to the Wolves on Saturday night.
Impact: Ellis bounced back after rough fantasy efforts of four points and 12 had owners searching for answers.
News: Calderon was out of the starting lineup Saturday night with a bone bruise on his right ankle.
Impact: Coach Rick Carlisle said before the game against Minnesota that Calderon would be a "game-time decision" and was day to day. Calderon was in street clothes on the Dallas bench. Rookie guard Gal Mekel made his first NBA start in Calderon's place.
News: Calderon (ankle) is out for Saturday's game against the Timberwolves.
Impact: Listed as a game-time decision, Calderon won't be able to face the Timebrwolves, after suffering a bone bruise during Friday's loss to Atlanta. The Spaniard's absence allows Gal Mekel to start at point guard, while Shane Larkin should also see added minutes. It won't be all that surprising if Larkin ends up with more playing time Friday.
News: Calderon is a game-time decision Saturday against the Timberwolves, after suffering a bone bruise in his right ankle Friday, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Impact: The injury was previously reported as a sprained ankle, and a bruise is probably preferable. Calderon wasn't able to finish out Friday's game but could very well return Saturday night.
News: Dalembert scored eight points Friday in a loss to the Hawks. He finished with four rebounds and two blocks.
Impact: Dalembert has picked up his intensity on the defensive end. He has blocked seven shots in Dallas' last three games and is averaging 1.8 blocks over the last five outings.
News: Carter scored nine points on 3-of-10 shooting Friday in a loss to the Hawks. He finished with four assists and two steals.
Impact: Carter is in in slump, shooting 32 percent from the field in Dallas' last five outings.
News: Marion posted his fourth double-double of the season and second in three games with 15 points and 12 rebounds in Friday's loss to Atlanta.
Impact: Marion was also 3 of 8 from 3-point range and appears to have recaptured some of his old shooting stroke. His 38.1 3-point percentage is his best since he he knocked down 38.7 percent of his shots from distance in 2002-03, his fourth season in the league with Phoenix.
News: Nowitzki scored 16 on 6-of-13 shooting in Friday's loss to Atlanta.
Impact: It was a disappointing night for the Mavs and Dirk, who missed a jump shot with 18 seconds left that would have turned Dallas' one-point lead into a three-point edge. He's shooting 45.8 percent from the floor in five games since scoring a season-high 35 in a Nov. 20 win over Houston.
News: Calderon scored a team high-tying 16 points Friday before leaving with a sprained ankle in the third quarter.
Impact: Calderon's status for Saturday is unclear. He is averaging 11.1 points, 4.9 assists and shooting a team-best 47.8 percent from 3-point range (44 of 92).
News: Nowitzki scored 16 points in 31 minutes of action Friday against the Hawks.
Impact: This came as a rather quiet game for the veteran, who has been averaging 20.8 points and 6.3 rebounds this season. Owners shouldn't worry at his lack of contributions in other stats, as the forward should continue to play well as long as he remains healthy moving forward.
News: Ellis (soreness) played through ailments on his back and ankle Friday against the Hawks. He put up 12 points, three rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block in 37 minutes of action.
Impact: It appears Ellis should be fine moving forward, as he was able to log 37 minutes and put up solid numbers. Continue to deploy him as usual.
News: Marion put up 15 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 35 minutes of action Friday against the Hawks.
Impact: Marion has been solid all season and is capable of putting up numbers in all categories. He should be owned in all standard leagues.
News: Blair grabbed 18 rebounds in 26 minutes of action Friday against the Hawks.
Impact: Blair has proven himself as a worthy low-end standard league waiver player. He is averaging 9.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 1.2 steals over his last five games, and should continue to contribute despite coming off the bench.
News: Calderon sprained his ankle Friday against the Hawks. He is unlikely to return, finishing the game with 16 points and four three-pointers made.
Impact: Calderon is getting x-rays on his ankle and the injury isn't likely to be too serious. Expect Vince Carter to take on more minutes if Calderon is forced to miss time.
News: Ellis played through Wednesday's game with a sore back and bad ankle, Mavs.com reports.
Impact: Ellis shot poorly (4-16 FG) but finished the game with 10 assists, so he was still effective in most fantasy formats. It's nice to hear that Ellis was willing to play through the injuries, but it also makes us a little worried about Ellis' status going into a back-to-back set Friday and Saturday this weekend.
Thu. Nov 28, 2013 | STATS
News: Nowitzki scored 22 points on 11-of-19 shooting in Wednesday's win over Golden State.
Impact: Though Dirk is riding a 3-point shooting slump - he's 4 of 17 from long distance in his last six games - he's still averaging 23.3 points during that stretch.
Mon. Nov 25, 2013 | STATS
News: Nowitzki has moved past Brooklyn's Kevin Garnett on the NBA's scoring list, at least for now.
Impact: The Dallas Mavericks star made two free throws against Denver on Monday night to take over 14th place on the all-time list. Garnett, who didn't play Monday night, sits at 25,352 points. Kobe Bryant is the only active player ahead of Nowitzki at the moment. The Los Angeles Lakers star, who is still recovering after tearing an Achilles tendon last April, is fourth all-time at 31,617 points.
Sun. Nov 24, 2013 | STATS
News: Nowitzki scored 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds in Saturday's loss to Denver.
Impact: He's averaging 26.7 in his last three games.
