GETTING INSIDE In one game, out the next.
That's what's going on with Pacers veteran center Jeff Foster. A day after returning to the lineup for the first time in 14 games, Foster sat out Saturday's 113-109 loss to Denver to make sure he doesn't overdo his back, which has been giving him problems for two years. The Pacers don't plan to play Foster in the second game of back-to-backs for the time being. He'll play in Tuesday's game against Miami in Indianapolis, but then sit out the game at Cleveland the next night. The revolving door at the backup center position means center Lou Amundson has to always to be prepared whether Foster's in the lineup or not. Amundson was the team's fifth big man against Memphis, but then he was starter Roy Hibbert's backup against the Nuggets The Pacers could solve their backup center position problem by acquiring an additional big man so they don't have to hope the 34-year-old Foster can stay healthy the rest of the season. The Pacers have plenty of salary cap space and only 13 players under contract. The team's front office doesn't have any intention of adding another player at the moment. |

NOTES, QUOTES --The Pacers turned the ball over at least 20 times for just the second time this season. All five starters had at least two turnovers, with forward Danny Granger turning the ball over a game-high five times. The Pacers had 23 turnovers in their 35-point loss to Miami last month.
--The Pacers know how to make a player known more for his defense look like he's an offensive force. Denver's Corey Brewer, who is known for his defense, followed up Memphis' Marreese Speights' 19 points on Friday by scoring 19 of his own on Saturday. Brewer, who was 8-of-16 from the field, scored the majority of his points against forward Danny Granger. QUOTE TO NOTE: "Obviously disappointed in the loss. I thought our transition defense was good most of the night, which it has to be against this team. We had too many turnovers. That probably cost us the game." --Coach Frank Vogel. |
