Thu. Apr 17, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Lowry scored 22 points (8-15 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 3-5 FT) in addition to three rebounds, five assists and a steal Wednesday against the Knicks.
Impact: Lowry has been on a hot streak, having averaged 25.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists in his last five games of the regular season. He is likely a candidate for Most Improved Player and will hope to carry his hot streak with him into the playoffs against the Nets Saturday.
Wed. Apr 16, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Vasquez scored 13 points (5-9 FG, 3-6 3Pt) to go along with five assists and four rebounds in 22 minutes against New York on Wednesday night.
Impact: He filled in for DeMar DeRozan (rest) on Monday, but even with DeRozan playing a half of a game Wednesday, Vasquez's minutes were back to his usual 20-25. Along with Patrick Patterson, he'll be a valuable piece off the bench for Toronto in the postseason.
Wed. Apr 16, 2014 | RotoWire
News: DeRozan scored nine points (2-5 FG, 5-6 FT) to go along with five rebounds in 22 minutes against New York on Wednesday night.
Impact: Once Chicago lost midway through Toronto's tilt with New York, the Raptors were locked into the No. 3 seed and thus had very little to play for. After sitting out Monday, it was no surprise to see DeRozan back in the lineup at least for a little bit, so don't let this fuel any injury concerns; he had been playing just fine prior to Monday and the extra rest was reasonably called for.
Tue. Apr 15, 2014 | RotoWire
News: DeRozan has been bothered recently by stitches in the webbing of his left hand, the Toronto Sun reports.
Impact: He's been playing through the injury since it happened on April 2, but with the Raptors' playoff seed now locked in DeRozan could sit for the final game of the regular season as well to let it heal up as much as possible before the postseason.
News: Valanciunas recorded a double-double in 28 minutes Monday against the Bucks, as he scored 14 points (4-7 FG, 6-6 FT) to go along with 13 rebounds and one assist.
Impact: Valanciunas is finishing the season strong, as he's recorded a double-double in four of his last five games. If he plays his regular minutes, he could finish the regular season with another nice game with a favorable matchup Wednesday against the Knicks.
News: Vasquez scored 25 points (8-12 FG, 5-9 3Pt, 4-5 FT) to go along with seven assists and two rebounds in 40 minutes Monday against the Bucks.
Impact: Vasquez played extended minutes with DeMar DeRozan (rest) sitting out Monday and cashed in with a very good line for owners. Expecting similar playing time Wednesday against the Knicks isn't out of the question.
John Salmons - #25 - Guard-Forward - 6'6" - 207lbs
News: Salmons is seeing 22.2 minutes on the court this season but only puts up 5.1 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.2 blocks per game.
Impact: Salmons is an integral part of the Raptors' rotation, despite his inability to amount much in the box score. While it's true that minutes played per game is the most important fantasy stat, he's one of the few exceptions to that rule.
Julyan Stone - #77 - Guard-Forward - 6'6" - 196lbs
News: Stone has only recorded one minute on the court since Feb. 19.
Impact: It's pretty obvious that Stone is not part of the Raptors' rotation. This should likely continue during the team's final two games and into their playoff run.
News: Vasquez will get the start Monday against the Bucks, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Impact: DeMar DeRozan will get the night off to rest against the hapless Bucks, so Vasquez and Kyle Lowry will form the Raptors' backcourt, making both players excellent plays in daily leagues.
News: DeRozan will get the night off to rest Monday against the Bucks, the Toronto Star reports.
Impact: This comes as a big blow for owners, as DeRozan is having a breakout season, but nonetheless, make sure he's out of your lineup Monday. Terrence Ross should get some extra shots, and John Salmons and Greivis Vasquez should see increased minutes.
News: Lowry played 34 minutes before fouling out of Sunday's game, scoring 28 points (9-18 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 6-8 FT) with seven assists, two rebounds and two steals.
Impact: It's his third straight game with 25 or more points, as the engine of the Raptors' offense gears up for the postseason. If Lowry can continue to be an effective scorer and distributor, Toronto could make some noise in the playoffs.
News: DeRozan scored 30 points (10-19 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 8-10 FT) with three assists in 38 minutes during Sunday's win over the Pistons.
Impact: He continues to cash in from the charity stripe, going 38-for-43 on free throws over his last four games. DeRozan's now pushed his scoring average on the season to 22.8 PPG, good for ninth in the NBA.
Mon. Apr 14, 2014 | STATS
News: DeRozan scored 30 points in Sunday's win over Detroit.
Impact: DeRozan has been the catalyst for the Atlantic Division-champion Raptors, averaging a career highs of 22.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists.
News: Valanciunas provided 14 points (5-14 FG, 4-7 FT) with a career-high 21 rebounds in 37 minutes in the loss to the Knicks on Friday.
Impact: Valanciunas, like the rest of the Raptors, struggled from the field and hit less than half of his shots for the first time since Mar. 25 (a span of eight games). He does have three straight double-doubles, though, and should fare well Sunday against the Pistons.
News: Johnson (ankle) returned from a three-game absence Friday in Toronto but didn't score (0-1 FG) in 17 minutes. However, he did have three rebounds, two assists, and a block.
Impact: Johnson had a quiet game in his return to the starting lineup. His minutes should ramp up in the last week of the season, though, as the Raptors prepare for the playoffs.
News: Johnson (ankle) will play Friday against the Knicks, TSN 1050 reports.
Impact: While Johnson will return from his three-game absence, it's possible the Raptors could bring him off the bench. Check back before game-time for an update, but it's certainly possible Patrick Patterson could remain in the starting lineup.
Landry Fields - #2 - Guard-Forward - 6'7" - 214lbs
News: Fields (illness) will not play Friday against the Knicks, TSN 1050 reports.
Impact: Fields will be unavailable versus his former team, as he's dealing with an upper respiratory illness. The forward has been out of the rotation of late, playing in just three games since Mar. 1.
News: Johnson (ankle) appears like he will return to the court Friday based off a tweet that read, "Now back to business," which he sent out and the Raptors' Official Site retweeted.
Impact: Johnson has sat out for the Raptors' past three games with his ankle injury. This of course is not an official announcement that he'll return, but it seems likely considering that there have been reports saying that he's close to a comeback. His official status will likely be updated before the game.
Thu. Apr 10, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Johnson (ankle) is nearing a return to the court, the Toronto Sun reports. Coach Dwane Casey relayed, "He's pretty close. He's still not 100 percent. But he's pretty close. If he had to go tonight, he probably could go. We're trying to make sure...he's ready for the next couple of weeks."
Impact: The Raptors clearly intend to have Johnson as healthy as possible for the playoffs, but his return could take place Friday versus the Knicks. If he makes a return, his play could include a bit of rust, though his presence would be a welcome sight for a suddenly porous defense. Another DNP, though, would result in Patrick Patterson logging 30-to-35 minutes at the four.
Thu. Apr 10, 2014 | STATS
News: Valanciunas had a career-high 26 points and 12 rebounds Wednesday in a win over Philadelphia.
Impact: He's averaging 17.8 points and 10.1 rebounds in his last eight games.
Thu. Apr 10, 2014 | STATS
News: Lowry scored a game-high 29 points in Wednesday's win over Philadelphia.
Impact: The Toronto point guard had missed the last three games and been held to 12.0 points in the three before that, so this was a nice return to form.
News: Lowry (knee) played 38 minutes on Wednesday, scoring 29 points (9-19 FG, 2-7 3P, 9-9 FT) with eight assists and five rebounds.
Impact: He missed three games with the knee injury, but was in top form Wednesday night. Lowry will likely see big minutes as long as the Raptors are fighting for a better seed in the playoffs, but if their spot gets locked in before the regular season is out it wouldn't be surprising if Lowry got a bit of a rest prior to the postseason.
News: Valanciunas did his best to put his DUI behind him on Wednesday, scoring 26 points (10-14 FG, 6-8 FT) with 12 rebounds and two blocks in 37 minutes.
Impact: It's his third double-double in his last five games, as Valanciunas has been coming up big down the stretch. His initial court date is set to happen during the first round of the playoffs, so hopefully he can maintain his focus.
News: DeRozan sustained a cut to his eye that necessitated three stitches during Wednesday's win over the Sixers, TSN 1050 reports.
Impact: DeRozan left the game in the second half after scoring 17 points (4-14 FG, 9-10 FT) to go with five assists and four rebounds in 34 minutes. It's the second set of stitches the guard has received in the past week after getting four on his hand last Wednesday. DeRozan is not expected to miss any time, but his status down the stretch is something to keep an eye on.
News: Johnson (ankle) will miss Wednesday's game against the 76ers, the team's official site reports.
Impact: There was hope that Johnson could play on Wednesday with reduced minutes, but he will be out. This will be Johnson's third straight absence with the injury. Expect Patrick Patterson to get the start at power forward.
News: Lowry (knee) will dress for Wednesday's game against the 76ers, the team's official site reports.
Impact: Lowry was expected to play in Wednesday's game and this appears to confirm that. Even though he's playing, he will with reduced minutes. Greivis Vazquez should still get playing time even with Lowry suiting up.
News: Johnson (ankle) will likely play reduced minutes Wednesday against the 76ers. He is still officially listed as questionable, TSN reports.
Impact: Johnson averages 29.3 minutes per game this season, so reduced minutes should put him on the floor for 15-20 minutes Wednesday. Expect Patrick Patterson to see the bulk of the minutes at power forward.
News: Lowry is expected to play Wednesday against the 76ers, but with reduced minutes. He is still listed as questionable, TSN reports.
Impact: Lowry averages 36.3 minutes per game this season, so reduced minutes will likely be in the range of 20-25 minutes. Fantasy owners should still check is status before tip and be prepared to pull him out of their lineups if need be. Greivis Vazquez is still likely to get solid playing time as well.
Tue. Apr 8, 2014 | STATS
News: Valanciunas will play in Wednesday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers, two days after being charged with drunk driving. Valanciunas was not made available to reporters at Tuesday's practice, but Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri confirmed he will be in the lineup
Impact: The 21-year-old Lithuanian was arrested Monday in Wasaga Beach, Ontario. Police say they began investigating after a report that a vehicle went through a drive-thru with open beer bottles visible. On Monday, Valanciunas said in a release that he apologized to the organization, his teammates, family and fans, adding he regretted "any negativity this incident has brought upon them."
News: Johnson (ankle) participated in practice Tuesday and will likely be a game time decision for Wednesday's matchup with the 76ers, TSN reports.
Impact: Johnson has missed two consecutive games with an ankle injury. If he sits out again, expect Patrick Patterson to get the start and Tyler Hansbrough to pick up some extra minutes.
News: Lowry participated in practice Tuesday and will likely be a game time decision for Wednesday's contest against the 76ers, TSN reports.
Impact: Lowry has missed three straight games with a bruised left kneecap. If he misses a fourth straight Wednesday, expect Greivis Vasquez to again start at point guard.
News: Valanciunas will play Wednesday versus the Sixers despite being arrested Monday for driving under the influence, the Toronto Sun reports.
Impact: Valanciunas is unlikely to miss any of Toronto's remaining regular season games while his legal case unfolds; however, with a court date set for Apr. 22, it's possible the center could be unavailable for a playoff game should a scheduling conflict arise. While Valanciunas' fantasy owners shouldn't be pleased with his off-court mistake, they surely will appreciate his recent five-game averages of 17.6 points and 9.4 rebounds. Until further notice, Valanciunas should be deployed in fantasy lineups as he usually would.
Mon. Apr 7, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Valanciunas was arrested Monday morning for admitting to driving under the influence of alcohol and for having open bottles in his car, Sportsnet reports.
Impact: The team said that they take the issue seriously and will comment further after they have gathered more data. It seems unlikely that Valanciunas will miss any regular season games because of the incident, but he's scheduled to appear in court on Apr. 22.
News: DeRozan scored 15 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter and the Toronto Raptors beat the Milwaukee Bucks 102-98 Saturday night.
Impact: DeRozan made six free throws in the final 24 seconds to seal the victory.
News: Vasquez tied a season-high with 26 points for Toronto on Saturday.
Impact: Vasquez, who averages 9.1 points, made up the scoring lost when starting point guard Kyle Lowry missed the game with a bruised left kneecap.
News: Valanciunas scored 17 points (7-11 FG, 3-5 FT) with 13 rebounds, three assists and one block in 34 minutes Saturday.
Impact: Valanciunas has really turned things around of late, averaging 14.8 points and 9.4 rebounds in the past nine games. He doesn't get many blocks or steals, but he is shooting a fantastic 62.3 percent from the field.
News: Patterson ended Saturday's win with seven points (2-9 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, one assist and one steal in 29 minutes.
Impact: Patterson has started the last two games in place of Amir Johnson (ankle), but hasn't been able to convert those opportunities into fantasy value. He can probably be left on the waiver-wire in most leagues.
News: Vasquez finished with 26 points (10-15 FG, 6-8 3Pt), four rebounds, four assists and a steal in 37 minutes Saturday.
Impact: Vasquez got his third straight start in place of Kyle Lowry (knee) and the 26 points is a season-high. As long as Lowry remains sidelined, Vasquez is a must-own player in all formats.
News: Johnson (ankle) won't play Saturday against Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports.
Impact: Johnson will miss his second straight game, after being limited to three minutes in Wednesday's win over the Rockets. Patrick Patterson will likely start.
News: Lowry (knee) won't play Saturday against the Bucks, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Impact: Lowry will miss his third straight game, allowing Greivis Vasquez to start in his stead.
Terrence Ross - #31 - Guard-Forward - 6'7" - 197lbs
News: Ross had 24 points in Friday's win over Indiana.
Impact: He'd averaged 7.7 in his previous three games, so this was a nice showing for the second-year guard.
News: DeRozan acted as the offensive playmaker with nine assists to go along with 20 points (8-19 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 4-5 FT) in 40 minutes in the win over Indiana on Friday.
Impact: DeRozan cut his hand during Wednesday's win over the Rockets, but the injury didn't appear to affect his production. He has provided 24.6 points on 47.3 percent from the field in his last five games.
News: Valanciunas provided 22 points (10-14 FG, 2-3 FT) and nine rebounds in 34 minutes during the win over the Pacers on Friday.
Impact: Valanciunas has taken advantage of his recent offensive opportunities, converting 68.2 percent of his field goals over the last five games. He won't help in assists, steals, and blocks (particularly for a center), but he's snagged a nice amount of boards.
Terrence Ross - #31 - Guard-Forward - 6'7" - 197lbs
News: Ross scored a team-high 24 points (8-17 FG, 5-8 3Pt, 3-4 FT) with five boards in 33 minutes in the win over the Pacers on Friday.
Impact: Ross had only hit three 3-pointers in his previous four games, so his outside shot can be called streaky at best. He's getting major minutes (34.0 in his last two tilts) and can help with points and 3-pointers on occasion.
News: Vasquez played 33 minutes in another start for Kyle Lowry (knee), providing 10 points (4-12 FG, 2-5 3Pt), five rebounds, and three assists in the win over Indiana on Friday.
Impact: Vasquez didn't put up similar numbers to his first start against the Rockets on Wednesday (15 points and eight assists). Lowry shouldn't be out too much longer, so Vasquez's value is limited.
News: Patterson started for Amir Johnson (ankle) on Friday, playing 25 minutes with five points (2-5 FG, 1-3 3Pt), seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals in the win over the Pacers.
Impact: Patterson has seen a bump in minutes in his last two games since returning from an elbow injury. He has totaled 13 points and nine boards during that span but should only be picked up in deeper leagues.
Fri. Apr 4, 2014 | STATS
News: Johnson didn't play Saturday.
Impact: Johnson left Wednesday night's game against Houston after only three minutes with an ankle injury. The starting forward, who has suffered several ankle injuries in the past, also missed Friday night's game against Indiana.
News: Patterson will start Friday, the Raptors report.
Impact: After returning Monday from a 13-game absence with an eblow injury, Patterson will be thrust into the role of the Raptors' starting power forward in place of Amir Johnson and should benefit from increased minutes.
News: Vasquez will start again Friday, the Raptors report.
Impact: With Kyle Lowry still out with a knee injury, Vasquez will return to the role of Toronto's starting point guard Friday against the Pacers. As long as Lowry is out, Vasquez should continue to start and see extra minutes.
News: Johnson (ankle) will not play Friday versus Indiana, the Toronto Star reports.
Impact: Johnson is dealing with an ankle injury, which limited him to just three minutes in Wednesday's win over Houston. His absence should equate to increased roles for Patrick Patterson and Tyler Hansbrough.
News: Lowry (knee) won't play Friday versus the Pacers, the Toronto Star reports.
Impact: Lowry was not expected to play after bruising his left kneecap during Monday's contest. He did not play Wednesday and will miss his second straight game, which means Greivis Vasquez will likely slot in as the starting point guard.
News: Johnson (ankle) will be a game-time decision on Friday, the Raptors' website reports.
Impact: Johnson's a hard guy to keep on the bench and might talk his way into the lineup, but even if he plays we wouldn't expect him to see his normal workload. Consider him a very risky play for Friday night.
News: Lowry (knee) will be a game-time decision on Friday, the Raptors' website reports.
Impact: Lowry is a bulldog and might talk his way into the lineup, but even if he plays we wouldn't expect him to see his normal workload. Consider him a very risky play for Friday night.
News: Lowry has been diagnosed with a bruised left kneecap, the National Post reports.
Impact: Lowry banged his knee during Monday's game, which forced him to sit out two days later against Houston. Nonetheless, the point guard is considered day-to-day moving forward, so his fantasy owners will have to monitor his status ahead of Friday's game versus the Pacers. Should Lowry be limited, Greivis Vasquez figures to assume Toronto's starting point guard duties.
News: Valanciunas scored 15 points (4-7 FG, 7-9 FT) to go along with six rebounds, one assists, one steal and a block Wednesday against the Rockets. He appeared to favoring his back after a second quarter collision, but was able to remain in the game and play 30 minutes, National Post reports.
Impact: The injury likely won't hinder Valanciunas' playing ability, but it is something for fantasy owners to keep an eye on down the strech. Over his last five games, Valanciunas is averaging 15.4 points and 9.4 rebounds in 33.8 minutes on the floor.
Nando De Colo - #3 - Guard - 6'5" - 190lbs
News: Even with Kyle Lowry sidelined on Wednesday, De Colo played just 13 minutes and scored four points (1-4 FG, 2-2 FT) with two assists.
Impact: Do Colo has established himself as the Raptors' third point guard since coming over at the trade deadline, but he still isn't a big part of coach Dwane Casey's bench rotation. Lowry isn't expected to be out for long, but while he is don't look for De Colo to provide much fantasy value.
News: DeRozan scored 29 points (10-19 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 8-10 FT) to go along with six rebounds, four assists and two steals in 40 minutes.
Impact: DeRozan cut his hand on a hard foul that he committed on Omer Asik, but was able to continue playing. The injury may be something to keep an eye on in the near future. DeRozan has averaged 24.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.2 steals in his last five outings.
Wed. Apr 2, 2014 | STATS
News: DeRozan scored 29 points to lead Toronto to a 109-104 victory over Houston on Wednesday.
Impact: DeRozan struggled down the stretch, going 2 for 7 from the field in the fourth quarter, scoring just six points.
News: Vasquez started and registered 15 points (4-12 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 3-4 FT), eight assists, and four rebounds in 40 minutes of play Wednesday versus Houston.
Impact: Vasquez handled Toronto's point guard duties in light of Kyle Lowry missing Wednesday's contest with a knee injury. Despite Vasquez only making three-pointers from the field, he did knock down four and also provided eight dimes. Should Lowry miss more action, Vasquez could see his fantasy value receive a brief uptick.
Wed. Apr 2, 2014 | STATS
News: Lowry missed his third consecutive game with a bruised left kneecap Saturday.
Impact: Lowry suffered the injury when he collided with LeBron James in Miami on Monday.
News: Johnson left Wednesday's game with an ankle injury and will not return.
Impact: Johnson played just three minutes before exiting, during which he recorded a pair of rebounds. An official diagnosis has not been provided, but the fact that a return has been ruled out so early in the game is not the most positive of signs. Look for Patrick Patterson to absorb the brunt of Johnson's minutes.
News: Vasquez will get the starting nod Wednesday against the Rockets with Kyle Lowry (knee) out of the lineup.
Impact: Vasquez will step in as the temporary starter, as Lowry is dealing with a knee injury and will not play Wednesday. Vasquez has been a productive backup since joining the Raptors in December and averaged 10.9 points, 3.3 assists and 2.7 assists in 21.9 minutes in the month of March. Lowry is not expected to miss more than a game or two, so Vasquez's run as the starter will likely be short-lived.
News: Updating a previous note, Lowry (knee) will not play in Wednesday's game against the Rockets.
Impact: Reports earlier in afternoon indicated Lowry was planning to give it a go after injuring his knee in Monday's game, but it appears as though he'll sit out as Toronto takes on a banged-up Houston squad. In his absence, Greivis Vasquez will enter the starting lineup and should see a significant increase in minutes. The fact that Lowry was going to try to plan seemingly bodes well for his status going forward, though consider him questionable for Friday's matchup with the Pacers.
News: Valanciunas had 20 points and nine rebounds as the Raptors escaped with a 98-93 victory over the Magic on Sunday night.
Impact: Valanciunas could be useful in fantasy action Monday in Miami. The Heat are known for soft interior play with former Raptors star Chris Bosh often a guilty culprit. The Lithuanian center could dominate.
News: DeRozan had 28 points as the Raptors escaped with a 98-93 victory over the Magic on Sunday night.
Impact: DeRozan is a quality fantasy play Monday in Miami. He is averaging 24.0 points on 53.7 percent shooting against the defending champs this season.
News: Lowry appeared to injure his right ankle when he got tangled up with Boston's Avery Bradley in a 105-103 win Friday.
Impact: The Toronto guard was helped off the court but managed to walk to the locker room for treatment.
