Devin McCourty, CB
- Height: 5-foot-11
- Weight: 185 pounds
- School: Rutgers
Jason McCourty finished his eligibility at Rutgers last season and was chosen in the sixth round by the Tennessee Titans. His twin brother, Devin, had to be a bit more patient, but will likely be rewarded with a much better outcome in New York. In fact, Devin McCourty's stock seems to be soaring going into April's draft, and a strong showing at the NFL Combine has given him a chance to break into the first round, which shouldn't be a huge surprise considering what he was able to achieve playing for the Scarlet Knights. McCourty totaled 238 tackles, six interceptions and 27 pass break-ups, blossoming into an All-Big East first team cornerback under coach Greg Schiano, a former defensive backs specialist. That environment helped McCourty develop an uncommonly high football IQ, which - combined with his speed and athleticism - helped him become a shutdown cover corner at Rutgers. Thanks to some raw physicality, he was also a major asset against the run, one reason for his high tackle total for his position. What could put McCourty among the top five in an uncommonly deep group of cornerbacks, however, is his impact on special teams on both sides of the ball. He returned the opening kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown at Connecticut on Oct. 31, averaging 25.4 yards on 14 kickoff returns as a senior, and caused even more havoc while blocking seven career kicks or punts during his time in New Jersey. NFL teams may have trouble leaving a high-character player with the ability to make things happen in so many different areas on the board for long. The worst-case scenario for McCourty is likely a third-round selection, and he could end up a whole lot higher as he earns bragging rights over his brother.
