Datone Jones, DE
- Height: 6-foot-4
- Weight: 275 pounds
- School: UCLA
After a fantastic senior season and solid performance at the Scouting Combine, Jones could be taken in the first round of April's draft. The defensive end finished with 19 tackles for loss and added 6 1/2 sacks as UCLA went 9-5 and played in the Pac-12 title game in 2012. Jones had an uneventful first three seasons, totaling seven sacks while missing the entire 2010 campaign with a fractured right foot. He took his game to the next level as a senior, and scouts took notice. Jones is an extremely athletic lineman, running the 40-yard dash in 4.8 seconds and finishing the 20-yard shuttle in 4.32 seconds at the combine. He gets off the snap quickly and makes it tougher for slower lineman to contain him. He has a solid straight-forward rush but has the speed to simply run past linemen into the backfield. Jones' natural instincts make him even more dangerous, as he seems to have a nose for the ball carrier. He can play in multiple defensive schemes and could be used in all situations in the NFL. There aren't many knocks on Jones, though many scouts believe he has raw talent that will need to be refined, as more talented linemen at the next level will be able to pounce on his mistakes. Still, Jones likely will be a late first-round pick in April and among the first defensive linemen taken.
