Nick Fairley, DL
- Height: 6-foot-5
- Weight: 314 pounds
- School: Auburn
Possessing a potent combination of size and speed for a defensive tackle, Fairley will likely be among the first players selected in this year's draft, and could even be the No. 1 overall pick. After playing mostly as a reserve in 2009, he was a dominant force in his first full season as a starter for the BCS national champions, compiling a school-record 24.0 tackles for loss among his 60 overall tackles and 11 1/2 sacks. He was also the defensive MVP in the championship win over Oregon after recording five tackles - 3.0 for loss - one sack and a forced fumble. Those efforts earned Fairley a plethora of honors, including SEC defensive player of the year. He was also a consensus first team All-American and the second Tigers player to win the Lombardi Award, given to the nation's best lineman or linebacker. The primary concerns about the defensive tackle lie off the field. Fairley was academically ineligible coming out of Williamson High School in Mobile, Ala., was redshirted, and then played one season at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Mississippi. He started two of 13 games following his arrival at Auburn in 2009, making 28 tackles and committing multiple personal fouls. The chance to take a potential franchise defensive tackle should have most teams willing to look past some of those negatives.
