Xavier Rhodes, DB

Scouting Report

Rhodes had a productive 2012 after undergoing offseason arthroscopic surgery and has a chance to become one of the latest first-round draft picks from Florida State. The defensive back dealt with a handful of injuries over his first three years in Tallahassee, the most recent of which was a sprained left knee suffered in a Champs Sports Bowl victory over Notre Dame on Dec. 29, 2011. While continuing his trademark physical style, Rhodes came back to tie for the team lead with three interceptions and make 39 tackles (27 solo) while earning first team all-ACC honors in 2012. He also had a solid showing at the combine, ranking in the top 15 among cornerbacks in all four drills in which he participated. Rhodes tied for first with a 40.5-inch vertical leap and a 132-inch broad jump. He showed decent speed for a defensive back by running 4.43 in the 40, an effort that ranked 11th. In his first season at Florida State, Rhodes played in two games before suffering a season-ending thumb injury, but he bounced back to earn a starting job in 2010. Rhodes posted career highs of four interceptions, 58 tackles (49 solo) and 12 pass breakups in that season while earning the ACC's defensive rookie of the year award. He played in a three-man rotation in 2011 but still had 43 tackles (36 solo) and an interception.
