Matt Elam, DB
- Height: 5-foot-10
- Weight: 202 pounds
- School: Florida
Elam, the younger brother of Kansas City Chiefs safety Abram Elam, is a projected first- or second-round pick after earning all-SEC and first-time All-American honors as a junior in 2012. A Palm Beach Gardens native, Elam didn't announce he was skipping his senior season until after the Sugar Bowl loss to Louisville, but many thought that would be his decision after three outstanding seasons in Gainesville. The former Mr. Football in Florida, Elam finished with 168 tackles, 23 1/2 for loss, three forced fumbles, 13 passes defended and six INTs - four coming last season - during his collegiate career. There are questions about the 21-year-old's small statute, as Elam could be at a major disadvantage against bigger and stronger receivers. However, Elam makes big plays and is one of the hardest hitting safeties on the board. He's also not afraid to go into the box to make plays. While this is a trait needed to compete on Sundays, Elam's aggressiveness can get him in trouble, as some scouts have identified him as someone who can go for the big hit instead of just finishing the tackle. Elam started each game as a freshman on kickoff coverage and kickoff returns, so he could also be a valuable special teams contributor, possibly as a gunner after clocking a 4.54 40-yard dash at the combine. Elam recorded 17 reps in the bench, had a 35 1/2-inch vertical and 118-inch broad jump.
