Scouting Report

A late riser who will be among the top overall picks in the draft, Floyd bypassed his senior year at Florida and is considered the best defensive tackle available. Despite Floyd being suspended for two games in 2011 by the NCAA for receiving $2,500 in cash from an individual not associated with the Gators, there are no character questions for this Philadelphia native who mostly grew up without his parents during a rough childhood. He returned to defensive tackle after spending some time at defensive end his sophomore year and anchored one of the best defenses in the nation, finishing with 46 tackles - 13 for losses - and three sacks. A first-team all-SEC and third-team AP All-America selection in 2012, Floyd's biggest asset is his relentless pursuit - he never gives up on a play and is surprisingly quick for his size. This is more apparent with his first step when rushing the passer, and his run-defense skills display his agility. He sheds blocks well with his hands, has the ability to contain on the edge and changes direction well. While Floyd can play all over the line given his versatility, he is best suited for a 4-3 formation in the two-gap. The team drafting him can easily refine his skills as he focuses to address his biggest shortcoming - turning his body at the line of scrimmage to become smaller against double teams. Floyd also will have to improve his conditioning and play lower to form an anchor capable of collapsing an opponent's offensive line. There are parts to Floyd's game that still require improvement in technique, but he plays whistle-to-whistle. While not a lock to go No. 1, it is almost a guarantee Floyd will not slip below the fifth overall pick.
