Hey, look who's back! After a year off following an eventful 13-year NFL career, Randy Moss wants to play football again. Known for his unmatched speed and acrobatic catches, Moss is recognized as one of the best in the business. A seven-time Pro Bowl selection, he was regarded as a world-class deep threat, but a potential malignant teammate in the locker room. Moss ranks fifth all-time in receiving yards and is tied with Terrell Owens for second all-time in touchdown receptions.

Moss’ aspirations were to play for the Notre Dame, but after signing his letter of intent he was involved a fight at his high school that left a person hospitalized. The Fighting Irish denied his enrollment. A year later, Moss transferred to Florida State. After another run in with the law, Moss finally transferred to Marshall. Moss, who in his final season at Marshall was a Heisman Trophy finalist, had over 3,500 yards and 54 touchdowns in only two seasons.

The Minnesota Vikings selected Randy Moss 21st overall in the 1998 draft. Some teams backed off the future All-Pro receiver because of his well-documented legal troubles. Moss signed a 4-year, $4.5 million dollar contract that included bonuses and incentives.

Moss flourished his rookie season, contributing to an offense that scored a then-NFL record 556 points. Moss was named a Pro Bowl starter and NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, hauling in 17 TD catches. The 6-4, 210-pound receiver had over 1,200 receiving yards in six of his seven years during his Minnesota tenure. Moss ranks second in Vikings franchise history with 92 touchdown receptions behind Cris Carter.

In 2005, Moss was traded to the Raiders for linebacker Napoleon Harris and draft picks. Moss had a 1,000-yard season his first year, but the Raiders only won four games. Moss battled nagging injuries and it seemed that he lacked a passion to play in Oakland. After a mediocre 2006 season, catching 42 balls for 553 yards, Oakland was eager to part ways with Moss. Al Davis gauged interest from several teams, but ended up dealing Moss to New England for a fourth-round selection in the 2007 draft.

Moss was thrilled to play for Bill Belichick in New England. In the 2007 season, Moss broke the single-season record for touchdown receptions with 23, surpassing Jerry Rice. After a 16-0 regular season, the Patriots eased through the playoffs but eventually lost to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII. Moss started 52 games in New England before being traded back to the Vikings in 2010.

Moss was only in Minnesota for four weeks before head coach Brad Childress put him on waivers. Moss had criticized teammates and Childress in a press conference following a loss to the Patriots. Moss played in all four games, racking up 13 catches for 174 yards and two touchdowns.

The Tennessee Titans claimed Moss off waivers, but he started only four games in Nashville. He finished the 2010 season with career lows in receptions and receiving yards and reportedly was not welcomed back for the 2011 season.

Joel Segal, Randy Moss’ agent, announced on August 1, 2011 that he had decided to retire.
