Despite the Dolphins' perfect game plan and near-flawless execution of keep-away, the Colts won 27-23 despite holding the ball for just 14:53 for the entire game, the most by any winning team in 32 years. Peyton Manning ran just 13 plays in the second half, but still led two fourth-quarter TD drives to show how deadly Indy could be.

Week+3%3A+Peyton+has+a+defense%2C+too%3F NFL Coming off a short week and flying out west to face the defending NFC champion Cardinals, no one would have been stunned to see the Colts have a letdown loss. Instead, we saw the first signs of an improved defense as the Colts completely shut down Kurt Warner and Arizona for a dominant 31-10 win. The Colts certainly addressed the run defense, giving up just 24 rushing yards a week after allowing 239 at Miami.

In hitting the road and blasting the reigning AFC South champion Titans 31-9, Peyton Manning showed off a new weapon – rookie fourth-round pick Austin Collie (pictured), who caught 8 passes for 97 yards and two TDs.

Collie and fellow rookie Pierre Garcon would go on to combine for over 100 receptions in 2009 for 1,441 yards and 11 scores.

Indy's division rivals, the downtrodden Houston Texans, entered Week 9 at 5-3 and poised to make a statement by beating the Colts on their home turf.

Houston had a good game plan too, except for the fact that the Texans could not cover Dallas Clark – a tight end in name only. Clark caught a career-high 14 passes, most in the first half while keeping the Colts afloat until Peyton Manning figured out other options. The Colts won 20-17 with a patented comeback in the final quarter.

But Clark's performance forced other teams the rest of the season to pay extra attention to Manning's favorite TE target.

NFL 5 8 Road to Super Bowl: Colts' revealing moments 10834502 Week 10: The 4th-down call heard 'round the world Week+10%3A+The+4th-down+call+heard+%27round+the+world NFL Even at 8-0, the Colts were not the undisputed "team to beat" in the AFC when nemesis New England came to town at 6-2 in mid-November. And Indy hardly looked unbeatable when trailing 31-14 early in the fourth quarter.

Then Peyton Manning detonated so emphatically that Bill Belichick lost so much faith in his defense, he shocked the NFL world by going for a 4th-and-2 at his own 28 in the final minutes, despite protecting merely a six-point lead.

Short by a foot, the Pats then watched Manning rip their hearts out in a stellar 35-34 win, one that gave the Colts a convincing edge over any team that in the end they had the best QB in the game.

Despite trailing by just two and in certain field goal range, Ravens QB Joe Flacco inexplicably fired a third-down pass into the hands of Colts LB Gary Brackett, sealing a thrilling 17-15 win over another conference rival – thanks to a defense that was following in their QB's clutch footsteps.

But trailing 20-7 at Houston, Peyton Manning pushed the Colts back to take a 21-20 lead by the fourth quarter.

Then immediately after taking the lead, the defense showed their killer instinct again by picking off a crumbling Matt Schaub, with Clint Sessions taking an INT 27 yards for a back-breaking touchdown. The win set an NFL record fifth consecutive fourth-quarter comeback for Indy.

Week+13%3A+Who+needs+magic%3F NFL Arguably the two hottest teams in the NFL hooked up with some still wondering when the Colts' magic would run out. Some thought that the Titanic duo of Vince Young and Chris Johnson could do it, but even they could not keep Peyton Manning on the sidelines forever.

Indy's 27-17 win further established that the Colts had no true challenger inside the division, and also tied the Patriots all-time record of 21 straight regular-season wins.

But the Colts' win was a benchmark for the franchise – cementing this team as the organization's all-time best (the '05 Colts started 13-0 before going bust in the regular season and playoffs) and one of the NFL's greatest all-time (NFL records with 22nd straight win, most wins in a decade with 114).

But the game also spawned a week-long debate on whether or not the Colts, now with home-field advantage in the AFC playoffs, would go for 16-0 or rest their stars the rest of the way.

Don't say they didn't warn us. With the Colts up just 15-10 in the third quarter, coach Jim Caldwell cut the cord on an unbeaten season by benching Peyton Manning. The Jets pounced, roughing up Indy's backups and storming to a 29-15 win — even making the playoffs because of the win. Of course, The Colts showed the world in the playoffs how little the extra rest mattered by smacking the Ravens and Jets soundly en route to the Super Bowl.
